can health insurance companies add extras without agreeement?

Hi all,

trying to find some answers on a sticky subject....

I had basic health insurance with a company here, I cancelled when the premium price rise amounted to silly money. I didnt renew my basic insurance for a few months ( yes I know I should not have done that ) and then took out insurance with a new company.

In discussions with my original insurer they said they would send me the bill for the missing months and I have no problems paying , which I have recieved, however they have greatly increased the premium from what I was told and what is currently on thier website.

I have worked out they have included accident insurance and various other insurances eg dental without my consent.

I sent a registered letter to them and they have totally ignored my questions and just said thats the monthly premium, pay it by XXXX date.

Firstly can they include insurances that I have never previously had, requested or agreed for?

Who can I speak to if the company doesnt want to remove the additional insurances??

Thanks in advance.

Companies should not be adding in extras.
Did you use a sales rep, sometimes they can be a bit dodgy and we have to deal with some horror stories from time time time..
Do you have a copy of your signed application form ?
If you dont them the company has to have one, you should start there.....
Good luck

Re: can health insurance companies add extras without agreeement?

Hi Simon,

sorry all was done vie the internet and signed forms which I posted back. I had been with the first company for about 5 years, exactly the same policy and accepted the standard annual price increases until a fairly large price hike.

yes I have the original forms, I have written back to the company stating they have completly ignored my original question and to explain why they have added additional insurance and to please show me the contract where I have signed and agreed fo the additional insurance.

hopefully someone reads it and does give a standard letter.....

Is there some way to put the outstanding amount into dispute and freeze it because if I dont pay by end of the month I am expecting a Manung from them

Re: can health insurance companies add extras without agreeement?

Well all is now well, after a very harsh email and threats of going to the papers they have decided in thier wisdom that there has been a clerical error and the premium has returned to normal status....

Strangely before they refused to accept any error and said they can increase the premium and add the extras if i liked it or not....

Nice to hear that.

They can't charge you for more than what you signed for in your contract ... !
