Assura insurances is crap

They sent me a letter for 230 CHF yesterday from the local betreibungsamt after I paid them lots of money since January.

I have never recieved a phone call or a "mahnung" for that one bill I forgot to pay in April.

I will change insurance company for sure, but felt the urge to warn you honest customers of these lazy bastards.

Best regards,

Re: Assura insurances is crap

i had negative experiences with them as well. At least 1 of their blunders was in my favor, so I just keep quiet with them, and hope they stay too incompetent to find out.

I am quite sure, they require 3 months notice, and be aware, you can not get rid of them as insurer, if you owe them money at the end of the year, which means paying the Betreibung fee.

Good luck,

Doc.

If you read my post they did NOT ASK me to pay it, they sent it to the freaking betreibungsamt.

it is lousy 230 CHF and I would have no problem whatsoever paying it!

but they did not call and did not send a reminder or nothing.

that is why they are crap

I think you can change insurance companies in November....not sure how much notice period you need though.

Re: Assura insurances is crap

You can change insurance till end of september.
If your company has increased the price in any of your supplementary insurances, you can quit by end november.
Groupe Mutuel and assura have to be quit by the end of june....

I had a similar issue with assura a few years ago. I stayed with them through laziness and thriftiness.

Re: Assura insurances is crap

I had problems with bills that I owed but had never received. Each time I sent them a letter saying I had not received the bill. Eventually I just told by insurance broker to "fix it" as I was getting fed up of receiving reminders for bills I never got in the first place.

Not had a problem with them since (that was 10 years ago).

They are the cheapest insurer, so you do, to some extent, get what you pay for.

One option would be to set up a direct debit.

I've been with them for almost 8 years now.
Never had a problem. Since they are low cost, they are more (maybe too) strict on the billing side.

You get what you pay for, or rather didn't pay for in your case !

Assura are known to be sharp and tough and as for not receiving any notification of an outstanding bill, this i cannot be right and if indeed it is the case, write to Assura and advise them of such.

JKust by the way, under Swiss law, as soon as a bill becomes overdue there is no obligation to isue "reminders or follow ups" you can directly put someone into poursuites

Re: Assura insurances is crap

A final update:

You will never believe this freaking crap!

I never "missed" a payment, I got a letter saying they had Computer issues and therefore some payments/services got wrongly calculated and now I will get 3 months for free!!!

However with the betribungskosten and all that *"%"*ç% sh1t, the bill landed on 400CHF and this "service" they talk about is only 100CHF per month.

To fight this will probably cost me my life savings, so I have to bow down to the machine and accept the fact that there is nothing I can do about this.

Soon I will be able to relate to suicide bombers* and their way of doing things, that is how I feel right now

Or to pay annually so that you get a 2% discount. This also means less issues if wanting to switch providers as you're sure to have paid for the whole of the current year.

Correct.

Also, you have to sign for a poursuite so if you don't agree with it when the postman arrives you can always write "objection" and then sign it meaning it won't go through and will buy you time.
Obviously if you know you owe the money then you may as well accept it but if you think there's been a mistake then you can do this, call the company/person in question and maybe sort it out.
This may save you the fees that the poursuites add on...

*Apologies for the multiple posts, only just found the multiple quotes button, duh

Re: Assura insurances is crap

AFAIK they don't send the invoices through regular post. To cut costs you must download them from their Portal. It's probably written somewhere in your contract.

When I switched to Assura I was expecting the orange slips, which never came. Instead I received a reminder to download all of them and pay.

Besides that I've had no problem with them.

I didn't mention that, as I don't know many people who can part with 10,000 CHF at the beginning of the year (that's what I have to pay Assura for a family of 5).

I get them by regular post and have done since day 1. An improvement in recent years is that fact that they send all 5 bills in the same envelope. That took some persuading.

Now, if only I could persuade them to send me a single invoice for the whole family...
