UNIA/RAV payment question

Hi Guys

So I received my first unemployment payment from the arbeitslosenkasse today but it was a lot less than I was expecting.

I don't really understand a lot of the information on the forms they send so maybe somebody here can shed light.

Im supposed to recieve 70 percent right? But is that 70 percent of your salary before or after tax? Do unia/rav take deductions from the amount? How much?

There is an amount on the letter that is 70 percent of my salary before tax, I received about 1000 francs less than that amount(But the amount I received is also a lot less than 70 percent of my salary after tax). That's why I'm wondering if there are some deductions that I don't know about.

Does anybody also know how often you receive payments? Is it once a month like a normal salary? And on which day of the month usually?

Many thanks for any info

Re: UNIA/RAV payment question

First, you don't get paid for the first week of being unemployed.

Second, the 70% is of your previous gross salary. They then deduct all the usual taxes and insurances, like if it was a normal salary.

Do a search on here - there are plenty of threads on exactly how unemployment benefits work.

Re: UNIA/RAV payment question

And also the max insured yearly salary is 106'000 CHF so if your salary was higher than that, you will still only get 70% of 106'000.

Re: UNIA/RAV payment question

So basically the amount on the letter that is 70 percent of my gross salary will then be subject to tax etc. That's why I got a lot less than 70 percent?

I have done quite a few searches but could not find that specific information.

I also did not know about the first week rule so thanks very much, suppose that makes (a bit) more sense now!
