Telemarketing or gov. activity?

I just had a phone call from some company with a poorly speaking French person trying to quiz me on our insurance companies and policies. He says it is a government activity, they need to inform us about an increase insurance is going to go through.

Now, it was quite suspicious to me, since they kept tuoyer me, they kept asking what companies we use and why, and if we want to change. I didn't give out any info and rescheduled their call to later when they can catch us both at home, but wouldn't a goverment info campaigners already know all this? Is it just a cheap way to push us to change our insurer? It was a very unprofessional thing, I had a feeling.

Re: Telemarketing or gov. activity?

Sounds dodgy.

I take part - annually - in a "foreigners living in CH" survey. But, I always get an official letter in the post saying XX from company YY is going to call me from the Basel authorities.

They then usually follow-up with a copy of the report and a small gift - worth only a few CHF, but it is still a token of thanks.

Re: Telemarketing or gov. activity?

Wait, what kind of gift? Maybe I can call them back..... I am kidding. Got my freebies yesterday on ExpatExpo, anyways.

Nope, we didn't get any letter informing us about any questioning, in fact I wouldn't mind helping CH gov collect data on foreigners at all, usually it only means an improvement either for us or others that might immigrate laters.

They kept repeating they need to know how much we pay, to whom and for what. When I asked them call later the guy got really annoyed. I wonder what those asterixes are really for...

Re: Telemarketing or gov. activity?

My colleague got a similar call the other day, the other guys in the office (who've been in CH a lot longer) all agreed it was telemarketers as now is the time that the prices change and people change insurer.

Yeah, I really got that feeling too...If the caller was polite and just was after informing me, why the haste in trying to get all the sensitive info out of me before I even have a chance to switch my brain on?
