One cable quotes Saudi King Abdullah as saying that President Asif Ali Zardari was “the greatest obstacle” to Pakistan’s progress. “When the head is rotten,” he said, “it affects the whole body”.

Re: Wikileaks -OMIFGOD, lots of drama

It is interesting how tightly in-step the arab countries are with the US. I mean, SA urging the US to attack Iran? Yemen President covering up for US missile strikes?

Clearly, the Saudis like having the US in the area. But why does the US have to take the brunt of the consequences? Sure, attack Iran and get embroiled in a quagmire while they sit there and look pretty. We better be getting paid really well for this.

Why don't they do it themselves?

Re: Wikileaks -OMIFGOD, lots of drama

the bits I heard about diplomats gathering intelligence/being told to do it has to violate international agreement or two yes?

I'm amazed how easy it is for some to get such secret volumes of info which I'm sure does not travel my mail/fax/email to get out into the public..

Yeah, using diplomats as IT Asset Management gofers is odd. I wonder who the UN's IT service provider is.

I read these documents were stored in a central server to facilitate the sharing of information across various agencies... a SharePoint site, maybe... But over 3 million people had security clearance to access these documents, so these are hardly well-kept secrets.

I am probably the only one who never had that issue: You can get brown sugar in the Chinese shop. I hope no service will ever decrypt our codes.

Keeel him!! urges Presidential hopefuls Huckabee and Palin

US embassy cables culprit should be executed, says Mike Huckabee

Republican presidential hopeful wants the person responsible for the WikiLeaks cables to face capital punishment for treason

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said, 'Whoever in our government leaked that information is guilty of treason, and I think anything less than execution is too kind a penalty'. Photograph: Tony Gutierrez/AP

The Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has called for whoever leaked the 250,000 US diplomatic cables to be executed.
Huckabee, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination at the last election but is one of the favourites for 2012, joined a growing number of people demanding the severest punishment possible for those behind the leak, which has prompted a global diplomatic crisis.
His fellow potential Republican nominee Sarah Palin had already called for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to be "hunted down", and an adviser to the Canadian prime minister has echoed her comments.

Re: Wikileaks -OMIFGOD, lots of drama

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Regardless of what you think of this julien bloke (he's born in Townsville...nuff said ) he's an investigatory journalist. This is what they do. They get documents and submissions from the website, then validate them. Call the cops, he's a journalism genius!!!

If one thing that can be taken out of this wikileaks scenario it has to be that governments need to either tighten up their security, stop being arseholes or stop lying to their neighbours and citizens. I can't see how transparency wouldnt be a good thing

Aren't they the ones followed by all the tea partiers,a bunch of which seem to that think the government is behind everything bad that happens to the USA? How do you get round that sort of thinking? The government is up to no good, but shoot anyone who tells you exactly what?
