In the whole scheme of things, what does a charge of "Unexpected Sex" carry? It seems easy enough to prove that the charges were trumped up, if he gets a fair trail.

Kinda funny that the woman pressing the "Unexpected Sex" charge is a gender equity officer at Uppsula University. Isn't Uppsula a local expression for "Oops"?

Anyway, the fact that they got him on a rape charge, yet no charges in regards to divulging secrets suggests he is being character assassinated.

Would you agree to locking him up even if he hasn't actually broken a law?
What I don't like, from what I've read, is that not using a condom can carry criminal liability. It's not like the woman can't refuse to carry on without protection.

Re: Wikileaks -OMIFGOD, lots of drama (Update: Site now on a Swiss domain)

This leaks sounds like an internal game from the US politicians and might be supported by Israel due to Obama's opinion regarding the Israeli expansion plans and it's all against the current US administration, it all sounds like the 11.09 attacks, putting a man up as the main public enemy to find a reason to enforce new strategies and change the rules of the game.

The reason i assume so is that these leaks came from various sources ie. CIA, Foreign Affairs and Pentagon, and i don't believe Assange had so many sources in such positions to collect all these data.

Can we just get this straight. Assange is simply a spokesperson for wikileaks, which is a collective effort.

I'm not having a go at you, Mowvich. It's just watching the news about this and they spin it to make this guy look like a Bond villain who has a personal vendetta against the US. That is utter crap. If he was a Bond villain, he would have rode those two women, then had them dropped in a tank of piranhas or something. Job done.

Well, yes, but: Wikileaks is not exactly "innocent" when it comes to Assanges fame... if there would be a second face visible for the organization or in fact anybody publicly known to stand up for them, we would not all focus on this one guy, would we?

So imagine you are a journalist. There is an important organization changing the game and all you know about them is the face and the history of one single founder of the club. Of course you would write about him... especially as he is not exactly trying to get things straigth but prefers to spread some rumours and vague hints... he is not being pushed into the bond villain drawer, he loves to play the "international man of mysteries" role very much himself... at least in the interviews I have seen (or the attempted CNN interview).

That was priceless. Everyone involved with that just came out looking like a muppet, especially Assange.

Why haven't we had any jokes about the (alleged) split condom and leaks yet?

wasn't it because of 9/11 the USA made an effort so that the different organisations had access to the same info/share info (to some extent at least) to be able to "connect the dots" unlike before 9/11? As far as I know Bradley Manning was an Intelligence analyst, so he indeed may have had access to all these documents..

Unfortunately it's neither funny nor a coincidence. The feminist movement has a very strong grip on the political arena of Sweden. And AA (the woman) is heavily involved in this movement.

And they got it wrong, it's Uppsala :-)

Re: Wikileaks -OMIFGOD, lots of drama (Update: Site now on a Swiss domain)

If Wikileaks manages to weather this storm they'll be all the stronger for it. They are also supposed to be sitting on 5GB of data from "a US Bank", some documents highlighting "corruption at the highest levels" of the Russian administration, and a video of an alleged massacre by NATO troops of civilians in Afghanistan.

Now, with the help of their heavily armed friends at 4chan and their "Avenge Assange" campaign, they've actually made this whole boring ordeal fun to watch...

We should start a poll: Who will be the next target?

I'm guessing London Metropolitan police?

After you put that article this morning, I got a bit interested into the details of the case in Sweden and googled a bit. Most discussions were on feminists websites and from the look of it do most people on there not at all agree with the two ladies, but rather feel that besides Assange the many victims of true abuse are smeared as well... (and I think they have a good point there.) I do not think they will get too much feminist support.

Let's hope that the Swedish police has upped their skills since the "Estonia"...

I think Assange should just dump the whole lot on Usenet/P2P filesharing... Wikileaks is just a web based medium for technophobic hacks who can't quite get to grips with the technology
