| | Major floods in Central Queensland, Australia
When I left Bundaberg, QLD in 2007 to CH, they were facing one of the worst droughts, and now they have one of the worst floods. Anybody else having family in Nth Bundy ? Phone lines went dead this morning, and many families were evacuated. News article | This user would like to thank jrspet for this useful post: | |

WOW... I didn't know you've been to Bundy???
Here are a few more pics some of my mates have sent me.
For those (obviously absolutely everyone else) looking the 'half pipe' the kids are standing on is a 12ft (4m) ramp.

Mom's place is just beyond the RSL, and backing the fields ( where Bundy Snow comes from in each May ).

I can imagine rats swimming around. My friend on the Gold Coast wrote to me- saying they were having really weird weather; expecting cyclones in February

So the floods reached 7.9m..... just a bit short of the 1942 record of 8.4m: http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/...daberg-in-two/
.......Not a bad effort really.
Everyone I've spoken to is OK. Just a bit spun out by the sheer volume of water.
Damage looks like it will be extensive.
I'll bet the pubs are doing alright !!!

Nth Bundy is cut off. The fields appear to be like part of an ocean. My family is waiting for boats to arrive with supplies.

I have just received a message from my relatives in Chinchilla they are well but the town is still cut off. I am glad they still have enough food even fresh vegetables and fruit.

Hi, we're originally from Gladstone and its cut off as well. My dad is having to fly the 100km to Rocky so he can have dialysis! Ironically, just before we left Australia, it was in the midst of a really bad drought.. my son was 2 before he saw rain for the first time. I hope for all our respective families it stops raining soon and that the mess afterwards isn't too bad or filled with tonnes of mosquitos.

They are alright - it is just that they never experienced something to this magnitude and being caught unprepared where supplies are concerned. We laughed, hoping there would not be a croc or shark nearby and perhaps could kill time by fishing straight off their verandahs. |

Just got word that the waters are now receding .. thusfar it has been by 6 inches. Floods in Queensland have covered large areas - covering France and Germany put together!

At least the IGA in Nth Bundy will be open for supplies, from Monday. The bridge on Queen St. remains cut off. One casualty - a woman at Gladstone and two reported missing.

I was also shocked to hear the area of the flood waters.

I have rellies (in their mid 80s) in Baralaba who are OK but cut off - and water is still rising there. They are on the "high" side of the bank so apparently that's good - the other side of town where the hospital and school are is under water. Apparently their neighbour has a helicopter so if it does get worse and reach them then they have their tickets out already booked!
Quite shocking the pictures though (and the snake warnings )

I've got an uncle and aunt at Gin Gin, just inland, on a property...I believe they are 'up in the hills' and plenty of supplies...
Typical australian weather - 10 years of drought, then flood...
My children (now aged 11, 9 and 3) had barely seen rain before we arrived in Switzerland 2.5 years ago...and we lived in Sydney on the coast!
