Boney M Star " Daddy Cool "Bobby Farrell is no more..

Bobby Farrell of 70s disco chart-toppers Boney M has been found dead on tour. He was 61.

Bobby, famed for his miming and dancing more than his singing, died in his hotel room in St Petersburg, his agent revealed yesterday.

He had complained of breathing problems before and after a concert in Russia on Wednesday night and the alarm was raised when he failed to respond to a wake-up call. The cause of his death has yet to be established.

Bobby lived in Amsterdam and his agent John Seine said from the Netherlands yesterday: “He did a show that night as part of Bobby Farrell’s Boney M and they found him this morning dead in his hotel room. He did not feel well last night, and was having problems with his breathing, but he did the show anyway.”

Born Alfonso Farrell in Aruba, off the north coast of Venezuela, he left home at the age of 15 to become a sailor. He lived in Norway and the Netherlands before moving to Germany where he worked as a DJ.

Rip Daddy Cool

"Boney M" singer dies

Lead Singer of Boney M dies at age 61.

I know it's cheesey, but there is always something cool about busting out an old 1970's disco track at a party, just as everyone is appropriately inebriated.

RIP Boney M

Quote:

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Boney M frontman Bobby Farrell was found dead in his hotel room in St. Petersburg on Thursday, the day after a performance in the city where the band rose to stardom in the Soviet era, his agent said on Thursday.
"He did a show last night as part of Bobby Farrell's Boney M and they found him this morning dead in his hotel room," agent John Seine told Reuters by telephone from the Netherlands. Farrell was 61.
"He did not feel well last night, and was having problems with his breathing, but he did the show anyway," he added.
The cause of his death was not immediately clear, said Sergei Kapitanov, representative of St. Petersburg's branch of Russia's investigative committee.
Farrell was famous for dancing and lip synching for the disco band that rose to prominence in Europe, the United States and the Soviet Union with songs like "Ma Baker," "Rivers of Babylon" and "Rasputin."
Boney M was put together by German singer-songwriter Frank Farian who also produced most of the vocals for the group, which stormed to the top of the charts in the late 1970s with a string of disco hits.

Shoot...That's too bad. He had some fabulous dance moves, the whole shtick was him. Some great party fun. Although I did grow up on corny commie stolen remakes.

Yeah, so did I.... but this seems to be the vessel that allows music to live forever.

... best of luck 're-making' the dance moves though.

With a bit of Becher, one surely becomes at least as good as BoneyM. Or at least thinks so...The 'fro and the groove is hard to fake, though. The commie versions sucked.

That's too bad about BoneyM. RIP. I am gona utube some now.

There have been some good musicians passing away lately, RIP Cpt. Beef, too, btw.

Not to forget our own (Ticino's) Steve Lee, who I knew casually (used to run into him at Migros or the bike shop).

I had (supposedly still have) the first or second LongPlay record of the group. Sad to see the "rubberman" get out so early, and I fear in a possibly painful way

Never liked their music but may he rest in peace. Aged 61, that's way too young these days but who are we to say when it's time to go . . .
