New property scheme: buy a house in Latvia and get EU residency

The house must be valued at 70.000 EUR + The Latvian governments grants you residency automatically. This law is obviously aimed at non-EU nationals who can cough up 94 000$ and spare it on a property in Latvia. Once a resident, you have rights to move freely around the EU.

I don't think it's bad deal for somebody longing for EU residency now is it?

So basically, buy your residency and get a free house?

It does not enable investors to work in the rest of Europe. But it does mean they can move freely within the 25 countries that make up the EU's Schengen area.

from the article.
This is gonna be a mess also.....

So alternatively put - pay 94'000$ for a Schengen tourist visa... someone pass the vaseline.

It does entitle the "buyer" to move freely in the EU as he becomes a resident of Latvia. Once they gain their permanent residency which I think takes around 3 yrs, they are allowed to relocate -move to another EU country and settle- in any EU country.

Of course it's more than a tourist visa...but their logic is that, other nations are doing the same e.g Germany lets you come in and settle as an investor...Latvian government suggested doing it for a smaller price tag and more bluntly of course

I am pretty sure that somebody would need to pay me to sit around in Latvia for three years... seriously: What's your point? If you are an Latvian resident, you can travel around in Schengen. Right. But you are only a resident, not a national. So you cannot easily start working legally anywhere else than in Latvia. For far less money you could for example enroll yourself in a university and get a residency as well that allows you to travel around... and you would probably benefit more from it than owning a property in Latvia.

Seems to me pretty much the same as we get in Switzerland with the B/C permit?
Free movement in the Schengen space but I still cannot work in France for example as a non eu national.

I thought you could do the same in CH - but the numbers just have to have a few more zeros after them!

NOt only in Switzerland, but also in the US Canada Australia etc you just add a few more zeros! So it's certainly more than 94,000$

C permit is only for Switzerland. It does not give you rights to live and work anywhere else.

Some African country was doing that but I can't remember the name...haha not bad of a deal if course you see no plans for investing that 140k elsewhere.
