Honestly, the issues of violence in the US has hastened our move to Suisse...It's incomprehensible really and we have lived in SF for most of our time here which is about as Euro-leaning as it gets here

| | Re: Gun violence: U.S. vs. Switzerland? | Quote: | | | | | Yesterday I read on BBC teletext that 2 US Senators have just stated that next time they meet the public they will be carrying hand guns! What ARE they thinking of? Having a gun battle shoot out at a political rally? And these are the law makers! What are the normal red necks thinking? | | | | | Sounds very reasonable. A normal red neck like me would add to the mix a bullet proof vest. I would also wear an embroided Jacket that would read "Gimme your vote not yer bullets" and a cap that would read "I do return fire".

In fact, I'm spending as much time over there (just reading) as I am over here at the moment. I'm particularly fond of the GNG Lounge, as all the technical stuff about firearms is way over my head, and think that there's a lot of common sense in there.
Anyone from the EF who would like to see how not crazy American gun collectors are should really go and have a look. Of course there are a few gung-ho types, but they are very well balanced by sensible people who just happen to like guns, who keep the armchair Rambos in their place, just as the regular members keep the annoying troublemakers in their place over here. All very entertaining. | The following 3 users would like to thank for this useful post: | |

DB - You are dangerously close to groan territory, as my Mother grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin!
Do not mess with the Cheeseheads
fduvall | Quote: | | | | I think the answer is cheese.
If Swiss people were compelled to eat Colby Jack instead of top quality cheese imported from the United Kingdom (not to mention some of their own cheeses which are reputed to be adequate for certain culinary purposes, such as bread dunking, or scraping onto boiled potatoes), then they might also take up arms against one another, making Switzerland into the kind of bloody hell-hole that would make the crime ridden fields and forest of the Upper Midwest look positively pleasant in comparison.
Nuke Wisconsin, and ye shall all be saved.

Oh, and Switzerland is hardly "Euro-leaning"(except for the nortwest).

The idea of moving here thinking it's "Euro-leaning" was my point!

Who else raids the fridge at night?
I was struck with a fearsome hunger at 11 pm and just had a great eclectic meal.
I had:
Pancakes with real maple syrup
Roast beef
Carrots
Frosted mini wheats
Spicy-chili doritos
Gushers
2 glasses of milk
And no I am not pregnant, nor do I smoke pot or drink.
Who else makes strange midnight snacks/meals?

Unbelievable. | | | | | Doesn't everybody have that sort of snack (in between real meals) ? |

| | Re: Gun violence: U.S. vs. Switzerland? | Quote: | | | | | And this graph is certainly interesting. Per capita Switzerland is a dangerous place! | | | | | Especially interesting and disconcerting to note that one is more likely to be "accidentally" murdered by gun in la Suisse than any other country in Europe.
And here I was thinking that all I had to do was get along and be semi-polite to stay safe when it's all about avoiding accidents. Whatever they may actually be. |

I think that graph has to be taken with a huge ladle of salt. How is it possible that in Northern Ireland there are practically exclusively suicide cases, whereas in New Zealand and Denmark there are only unintentional shootings? Do I smell something fishy?
