'I'm French, f--- you!': smoker on flight charged with assault

That is what is says on a criminal complaint filed by FBI Agent Janet Ambrisco.

He drank, smoked and shoved a Federal Air Marshal. Then he proudly declared his Frenchness. It is amazing what one 1L of Baileys can do to someone.

More

Franck Lebrun "did knowingly and intentionally assault and intimidate a flight crew member and flight attendant of the aircraft"

SMH article on that Delta Airlines Flight 83 from Nice to Honduras via New York.

Just another happy Delta passenger crossing the pond. I take it that Mr. Lebrun was not at the time of the offense in possession of a beard? This would have at the very least triggered a Defcon 3 alert and an F-15 Eagle fighter escort and a welcome at the Gitmo Hilton.

Ah, the war on tourism continues.

Come on! Angie! He is french and a tourist! How can he knew that? Give a break to the poor guy, don't be sooooo judgemental! We don't know, maybe they force him to smoke & drink. And maybe the woman tried on him.

I reeeeeally feel sorry for him! If I was him, I would be so mad and I will come straight on this forum to rant about it!

A French friend of mine was returning from a visit to the U.S. and got a seat with an overhead light that wouldn't turn off. Asked to be reseated, no dice. So he snuck into the flight attendant's bunk and dozed off. The steward who found him shook him awake- but my friend is a jumpy sort having grown up in a bad part of Paris and decked the poor guy. Mr. Frenchie has nine lives though and once again escaped any charges, even demanded a refund of his ticket . This was British Airways.

Re: 'I'm French, f--- you!': smoker on flight charged with assault

I swear this guy was on my flight too!

I flew delta to Atlanta last winter and a man was sitting two rows behind me with a young (maybe 4 year old) girl. He spoke French (I had to translate to the flight attendant for him) and, sure enough, before the plane landed, he tried to scramble out of his seat. They were yelling at him on the intercom to stay in his seat but he tried to push through the crowd out the door anyway (not easy, he was in practically the last row). It turns out that he had been caught smoking in the lavatory and when he got out of the airplane, there were the federal marshals...waiting...I felt so bad for the little girl.

But at least he wasn't as bad as the German guy sitting directly behind me who apparently took some medication which he refused to divulge to the crew, then drank three beers and vomited everywhere. The flight attendant actually woke me up to tell me I should probably check my belongings and clean them if necessary. It was necessary.

Plus I was 3 months pregnant, still having morning sickness, and was leaving my husband and 1 1/2 year old daughter to fly home. For my grandpa's funeral.

The Russian Junior hockey team was kicked off their flight back home from buffalo earlie this year. They were reported as being extremely drunk and disorderly. (celebrations from destroying the Canadian team).

What I found odd was that they all boarded, then had to unboard because of rowdy drunken behavior and flew out later on separte flights. Does that conduct not usually get one arrested. Not to mention they were drunk at an U20 tournament in the US. I guess the french don't get such special privileges.

Not necessarily. If you leave when asked to and don't affect the flight schedule, it is possible that just getting off the flight is enough.

I think that disruption during a flight carries a greater penalty due to the inherent danger.

"After the LEBRUN was detained by federal air
marshals, a member of the flight crew found a one liter bottle of Bailey’s Irish Creme liquor in the defendant’s carry on baggage that was only approximately one-quarter full."

Great stuff. We should set a battalion of Baileys-glugging Lebruns on the Tea Party - I can already hear the tinkling of broken cups and saucers.

3/4 bottle of Baileys? Is that all? Lightweight.

Re: 'I'm French, f--- you!': smoker on flight charged with assault

These air rage instances happen pretty much daily people. Not each and every one makes the newspapers, but with a few basic ingredients: Boredom, alcohol, frustration, claustrophobia and irritability, they give you all you need to get people pissed (in both senses) and likely to do something out of character.

I know a bunch of airline pilots and there's not one that doesn't have their own repertoire of drunk pax stories and tales of woe from the on-board lavatories.

http://www.torontosun.com/news/canad.../16854151.html

I remember one flight I had to take in Norway a couple of years back and I was seated next to the resident drunk pax. He managed to consume all his carry on duty free beer pretty much before the undercarriage was retracted on the Dash 8 and the cabin crew served him another 6, yup 6, cans of lager before the landing gear were deployed for landing in Copenhagen and he was poured off. He was obviously unaware of his noxious odor that I had to endure and his superfluous, high volume in-flight commentary (in Norwegian) about each and every thing he saw from his window seat. I'd have hugged and kissed the Grim Reaper on that December day.
