Re: Egypt- "Jan25_ Day of revolution"

Hosni Mubarak is expected to make a speech in the next few hours. My guess is that he will either resign, or announce that he doesn't plan to stand for re-election in September. I don't think the people will accept the latter, they want him out Now!

Well he thinks that he has done enough good for the country, in the meantime the constitution will be changed to make sure that no-one else will reign as long as him. Also that he is a military man and that he will make sure that all the corrupt people and those who caused all the trouble are found and punished. That he will die on Egyptian soil. Correction- he will be buried on Egyptian soil. the crowds are chanting that they are not leaving. The King of Jordan has sacked his whole govenrmnet!

egypt embassy in saudi-arabia is considered egypt soil isn't it?

what a disappointment the speech. It's almost 1-to-1 copy of BenAli last speech: not run for election, modify constitution, i served the country etc....
Egyptians should keep pressure, he will flee by the end of the week.

Nope, he wants to make sure his place is secure in history and his legacy still strong.

He wants to make sure that the good people (his peoples) will take over the gouvernment,

Poor foul! People are mad more than ever and scream bad words and insults to him.

Guys, is it just me or is Mubarak's speech tonight a reminiscence of Ben Ali's a month ago when he said he wasn't running for re-election in 2014 ??

Hosni Mubarak indeed gave a moving speech and showed his immense personality, BUT he ought to realise that he is (was) the man of the older generations. A nation of which 70% are younger than 30 years old however now wants change, swift change. I hope he either finally steps down or at least moves forward the end of his term to an earlier date like 1st or 15th April. I at the other hand would find it great if he after having stepped down would stay on in Egypt.

It's like a replay of what happened in Tunisia...he's making concessions already...I insist he contacts a real estate agent to find him a decent flat in Jeddah or Riyadh.

Right you are, but the vast difference to Ben Ali is that even in the present turmoil, personal corruption is not THE topic. The topic is that his rule and his authoritarianism are unacceptable and that he has to step down. You also may have seen that the people older than 50, on one side urge him to step down NOW, but still feel a sense of deep respect for the old man. The present situation however has shown that he is completely out-of-touch with the young majority of his people. He apparently failed to realize that a majority of the Egyptian people are born after 1985 and so do not see him in the light of what he did before the turn of the century.

Why Jeddah or Riyadh ? Suzanne Mubarak is from Cardiff/Wales, and so, the presidential couple from Egypt will possibly settle down in Southern Wales. It is known that the General is on splendid terms with the family of his wife, and likes Cardiff.
