Outdoor Adventures Whistler: Mass sled dog killing probed in B.C.

Quote:
British Columbia SPCA officers headed to Whistler Monday to investigate claims that 100 healthy sled dogs owned by a tourism operator were slaughtered.
The allegations are contained in a filing to WorkSafeBC, the provincial workers' compensation board.
According to a release from Outdoor Adventures Whistler, an employee of a company called Howling Dogs was compensated for post-traumatic stress after shooting 100 dogs in April 2010.

Re: Outdoor Adventures Whistler: Mass sled dog killing probed in B.C.

Which part bothered you? That they were shot and not put down at the vets or that they were killed in the first place?

Re: Outdoor Adventures Whistler: Mass sled dog killing probed in B.C.

How about this bit ?

""I won't use the term euthanized, [which] implies a humane death, and I can say that based on his description, at least a number of dogs did not have a humane death. His descriptions of using a shotgun, blowing off half of the dog's head while it ran off, a dog crawling out of a mass grave, it just made me shudder," Moriarty said."

Have you ever been to a slaughter house? Oops I forgot you are a vegetarian right?

What happened to those dogs was very bad and in my book not on but how is it that different to the meat you get in the market world over? It's the pick and choose selective outrage that bugs me. I bet you and you mates won't have any problem tucking into a nice halal kebab.

Actually, slaughterhouses are regulated and controlled so that the killing is done as safe and as humanely as possible. People don't just go into a herd of cattle and go around indiscriminately blowing their heads off.

But why would they shoot 100 dogs? And why isn't the Canadian animal protection unit called the RSPCA!

Re: Outdoor Adventures Whistler: Mass sled dog killing probed in B.C.

The thing is these dogs are like athletes, they are trained and good quality, it would be like shooting 100 race horses, surely they could have been sold as high priced sled dogs.

Re: Outdoor Adventures Whistler: Mass sled dog killing probed in B.C.

If they would have take time and energy to do it properly, they would have find people, organisations (public or private) to take a good care of them. Those dogs are absolutely incredibly cleaver and sensitive. They have very nice personality and like every other dogs, they want to be loved.

Those dogs, when trained are expensives and I know many people in Quebec who would have take some. Sled dogs are very popular in the touristic industry and for people who own them, it is a way of life!

Disgusting and very sad indeed!

Yes it is just done behind closed doors in a nice orderly line with a stun bolt or with a knife. All the animals that are lined up love it and jump for joy shouting "me first, me first"

Yes just like pig, sheep, cattle, chicken and all the many animals that make their way to your dinner plate.

You are just trying to change the direction of the topic, if you want to talk about how animals are killed in general, open a topic on it.

The topic here is about a dumb ass, supported by a big company who told him to get rid of the dogs in a careless, crual manner. They could have done a campaign, made it a public interest to offer the dogs to people who would want to take care of them and treat them well.

If a whole revolution of a country is made from and with public medias, the rescue of a few hundreds of dogs would have been done to.

Not really, no

The difference being they don't see the animal in front being done for, and it's done with as little fuss as possible, whereas the dogs pretty much saw what was going on around them. Killing for food is fine by me, as long as it's done "properly" for want of a better word. What I object to is that these healthy, valuable dogs were killed as cheaply and as inhumanely as possible because the owners couldn't be arsed to do something more constructive for them

Would have been cheaper to euthanise them properly.
Selling to dog sledders would have made some money back at least.

I read it on Yahoo earlier:

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/2011020...s-c1b2fc3.html

Dogs who were not killed properly were climbing out of the mass grave. Tore my heart. Man is indeed the world's worst animal.
