The only battle going on is the battle between the Swiss and German honey....who knows who will win.
My approach is that each should appreciate its cultural heritage but respect its neighbours, be they expats or whatever.
My flatmates approach is that they should be integrated.
Generally after a couple of drinks we can't taste the difference anyway and are thinking about bringing the Nutella out of retirement to settle the whole thing. | | | | | Is there not some really expensive jar of something (maybe caviar)that has no idea about the real world and was educated in a ponsy school and went to another even more exclusive university coming along and telling everyone that their time in the common fridge has failed?
Nutella has to go back to the fridge that doesn't work most of the time and in fact is really quite hot and baren. Larger jars of nutella usually come and steal some of the chocolate out of the smaller nutellas jar. (This is africa with corruption and drought if it wasn't obvious enough)
The peanut butter both crunchy and smooth has to go back to it's respective fridge. The fridge shorts out sometimes and stops working. A lot of the other jars are next to empty and need help from caviar in this fridge. Sometimes caviar or honey send drones in to kill any peanut butter that has been bad without asking the head peanut butter if that's okay. (south asia and americans sending drones in pakistan here)
Alas caviar and honey are happy in their nice fridge. No more corner shops or taxi drivers though. That's all those africans and asians were good for anyway | This user would like to thank for this useful post: | |

Clearly your PhD thesis will be awesome because you my friend have one of the most bizzare imaginations that I've come across. | Quote: | | | | | Is there not some really expensive jar of something (maybe caviar)that has no idea about the real world and was educated in a ponsy school and went to another even more exclusive university coming along and telling everyone that their time in the common fridge has failed?

| | Re: David Cameron has finally awakened - attacks multiculturalism | Quote: | | | | | Yawn, you could be describing any religion taken to it's extreme. | | | | | This is a lame excuse ! An attempt to deflect responsibility by saying everyone does it...
Islam is not like Christianity, it's the exact opposite !
And besides, Jews and Christians don't take their respective religions quite literally...
I also find it very hypocritical that Christian bashing is encouraged, but Islam seems to be above any kind of criticism !
Someone quotes a barbed medieval criticism of Islamic violence in the course of a scholarly discourse, and pretty much Muslims all over the world go into an uproar...oh, and churches are firebombed !
Someone says that the notion of 'Christian' is repugnant, and pretty much everybody applauds him !
Western writers have criticised Islam and Mohammed for centuries...these were respectable authors ! Violence and terrorism actually go back deep into the roots of Islam, into its religious roots...the call to Jihad, with which the Qur'an is full, the division of the world into two tribes, the Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb, and the dream of world domination...

Muslims cover a huge spectrum- from very varied backgrounds and cultures. Just like Christians. Many Christians do have fundamentalist beliefs- heard of Creationists? And many do not. Some believe in Saints, some do not. Some believe the bread does turn into the body of Christ, most do not. Some believe the earth is very new, and totally deny Darwin. And so on.
They certainly have variety of belief in common - and so much more.

Clearly this is correct, I mean let us look at the evidence quickly. Similar roots Similar set of ethics Similar geographical area Islam states that it is the part of the brothers of Abraham religions and the others don't disagree A mutual set of characters, only some disagreement on who exactly is the prophet and who are saints. Yup, it is starting to come to me....yes, they are the exact opposite. I think we may have sorted out the world's problems....two major religions are the exact opposite!!! Oh, I mean except how could a religion have an opposite? Like what would the opposite of Buddhism be then, or what is the opposite of a tree? We really need this sort of demented hate attitude in this world. Congratulations bro on showing your enlightenment and your ongoing understanding of the diverse world around you. Back to bible camp for you!

Religion is a reflection of people, not the opposite. All religions are essentially the same because all people are essentially the same. The minor abberations inherent in Islam/Christianity etc occur with roughly the same frequency that abberations occur in humanity.

That kind of exact opposite? |

| | | | | A teeny tiny little correction here:
They all have the same prophets (Islam accept them all as being all very important in the religion's history), they have all the same saints (beside maybe when catholic church keep adding them up) the only difference is that Jesus is a prophet (a big one) and not the son of God.
Let's just see it this way, the 3 bigs religions are a last version of the previous one.

I appreciate the sentiment behind your post but it is this sort of dumbing down that is so prevalent in our society these days.
What you are suggesting is equivalent of saying-
- The intellectual content of all books in the book store is same because they all use paper
or
- All diet books are essentially same because they deal with food. There are low fat diet books, there are meat driven diet books, there are vegetarian diet books, there are sea food driven diet books
So in short people should read all the books to make up their own mind. I never understood how people can say that they respect all religious books when they have not even studied the content of these books.
Anyway it is a well known fact that Judaism is the best religion as they are God's chosen people |

Cashboy Buddhism is not the 3rd largest religion. You need to do a better job of cutting and pasting from wiki.
