About "The Swiss government says it has identified potential assets to be frozen worth 830m Swiss francs (nearly $1bn or £600m) belonging to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and the ousted presidents of Egypt and Tunisia."

Must be tough when you have to start worrying about "where are your last few billion....."

She should stay out of rocket range of the Libyan border.

Seems Gadaffi himself has not been seen for 10 days; can she keep her eyes open for him in Tunisia?

There are claims today that Gadaffis wife & daughter have fled to Tunisia. Which wife & which daughter is not specified.

5 Khaddafi generals fled to Rome

Five generals and three colonels of the Libyan government army fled to Rome, claiming that the government army only is working to some 20%, and stating no longer to believe in any future of the present regime.

Is it credible? or is Ghaddafi putting a nicely placed submarine into the rebel camps?

Whatever these military guys are now in Italy, well away from any shooting, bombing, etc.

Who needs sanctions when you have bankers?
From today's newspapers "Goldman Sachs lost 98% of Gaddafi's $1.3bn investment"

It is highly credible, as it is in line with similar developments. Several ministers, and members of the Khaddafi family also have already left. And none of the Generals has offered to assist the rebels.

What I suspected (and still do) is not that they want to join the rebel force to fight, but that they will hope for positions of authority in the new govt and that maybe this is Ghaddafi exit strategy to hide away inside the country and be protected by those generals that have bailed out.

I hope the Generals are arrested and sent to the Hague for trial on war crimes.

They are neither accused nor arrested but will get political asylum in Italy.

In case of doubt, they may become advisors to the Italian army supreme command

They A) will NOT be accused / imprisoned but of course (B) will get political asylum.

As Libyan officers of high rank usually are connected with Italian colleagues, they also will find adequate lodgings and also some employment fairly soon. This is reality.

It's a sad & disgusting reality. Someone needs to protest and get the Hague involved.

PS, smiley faces on a topic like this seem kind of icky.

There is no basis for DenHaag procedures. And icky ? I just imagine how the Libyan generals enjoy to have got out of teetotalling Libya and enjoy, possibly together with Italian colleagues good Italian wines and at the end a nice Vecchia Romagna ..... But, true enough, I would not seriously consider them as advisors, as the amateurish strategies of that Libyan government army were not witness of high military standards

& again
$1Bn in SocGen - the Libyan Investment Authority’s biggest investment in five years – had lost 72 per cent of its value by the middle of last year.

Maybe bankers have their uses

Warning this is 'Hoppy Humour' highly distasteful to some EF members, But I think that when this comes out is might be damnably funny!

I'll have to read a bit more about it. Bruno shocked even me in some parts.
