The Libyans denied a Turkish evacuation flight

Using jets against your own civilians has got to be the lowest of the lows.

The Netherlands should invite Gaddafi, then take him to the Hague for trail as soon as he arrives.

Gaddafi rule near end as his grip slips

Quote:
Another report said that the Public Security Minister, Major-General Abdel Fattah Younis al-Obeidi, had defected to the protesters, while a local lawyer told Reuters that members of an elite army unit known as ''the Thunderbolt'' had also sided with the protesters and overwhelmed a force belonging to the separate Republican Guard loyal to Colonel Gaddafi.

Gaddafi might have already left the country

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...et-alight.html

If so, that calls for some celebration.
Some newspapers are saying he went to Sirte, Qaddafi’s birthplace and tribal home.

Whatever, he has not been seen since Friday. He could also be sitting in a bunker in Tripoli.

Probably not very practical to use Mirage jets in Tripoli. You can't safely fly them at much less than 200 kmh & there are a number of tall buildings around. How you distinguish between pro or anti Government people at those speeds & heights is beyond me?
Maybe they just fire at anything that moves?

Re: Libya - 17 Feb "Day of wrath"

It's kicking off.

It may not be a valid comparison, but I was lucky enough to be in Berlin in 1989 as the Wall came down. Simply unforgettable scenes (gosh, I must scan those photos into Flickr).

That was a Peaceful revolution.

The Wall came down. End of an era.

But what is happening in Libya makes the end of Ceausescu's regime in Romania look like a kindergarten fight. I fear a lot more blood will flow and the results will affect us all.

Libyan army massacring demonstrators, Iran ditto - good to know the U.N has reacted and help is on the way.

Oh, hang on - it didn't.

Interesting to read Human Rights Watch report from 2009 about the "Tripoli Spring" - and their positive view of Saif al-Islam. Apperantly he was "outspoken on the need to improve the country's human rights record".
You speak as if Libya and Iran were almost the same, while they are completely different. Libya is a traditional one-man-dictatorship while Iran is a country ruled by a Mullahcracy and a power hungry state-president. While I do not expect the Iranian, mostly secularist, military leadership to break up, the Libyan military quite obviously already, surprisingly swiftly IS breaking up right now. Khaddafi may politically survive but even if, it will no longer be the same.

Yet another pathetic appearance of Kadhafi on TV to deny his escape to Venezuela.

A pity those fighter planes didn't drop their load on Qaddafi's palace before heading to Malta.

You fail to understand what I said: The U.N doesn't condemn Libya & Iran. Ban Ki Moon mumbled something and that was that.

Re: Libya - 17 Feb "Day of wrath"

Did you guys see Kadafi's speech yesterday? in that wrecked car under the 'imaginary' rain??
It lasted about 20 seconds and he was like "i'm still here, bye''.
Even his studios suck...btw, he's not friends with Saudi Arabia, so where do you think he'll go??

Re: Libya - 17 Feb "Day of wrath"

Seems the Italian stock exchanges did not open today due to "they said" technical problems.
Most people seem to think it was due to the heavy falls in stock prices yesterday due to the Libya issues where Italy is a high/lead investor.

Listening to Kadhafi "speech". Given in front of his former house bombed by US army under Reagan.
Among the weirdest speeches ever heard....crazy dictator caricature; i could not stop thinking about Chaplin's movie.

"Libya wants chaos, beards and turbans", says Col Gaddafi, according to the live translation.

Gaddafi says he will die a "Shahid".

Didn't wollishofener tell him that Jihad means "an attempt to improve the world" ? poor, misinformed gaddafi & sons.

Kadhaffi said many stupid things but you are the first one to use it for your own argumentation and purpose.
