Nelson Mandela was once quite fond of the Africa's king of kings, calling him "my brother leader" and even "Those who feel irritated by our friendship with President Gaddafi can go jump in the pool." - maybe he can convince him to step down ?

Kaddafi tells the West that the protesters want to turn Libya into an Islamic caliphate, and tells Libyans that the West wants to invade Libya and turn into another Afghanistan.

Gadaffi's Speech Summarised: -
1) He praises himself repeatedly.
2) He threatens to murder more people unless they support him.

At this point, I have become VERY, VERY pissed off. I saw some footage of the carnage. That motherfuka is slaughtering his own people.
I really, really wish the US marines would just quickly swoop in, snuff him out, then get the hell out. I hear I a lot of Algerians in interviews even asking for US intervention. Though it is thoroughly politically impractical, I would not mind if the US did for moral reasons. But then, they would get blamed for everything.
The opposition needs military support. This may not be a bad time for the Egyptian army to step in and come to the aid of their neighbors. It may be a good investment for the future peace of the region.
Even mercenaries or commandos would help, because without a strong military deterrent, the lunatic does not seem to have any qualms about slaughtering the Algerians like sheep.

Apparently he ordered 2 libyan warships to shell Benghazi but the crew refused and fled to Malta (like the mirage fighter-jets a few days ago).
The guy is totally out of control and he does not have any moral fiber to restrain him from slaughtering his people.

The Libyan nuclear program was quite advanced when discovered (8 years ago) - it's very likely that by now Gaddafi would have had the bomb (like North Korea).

Alright, fine.
Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt may just become one country soon anyway.

A joint military action for the purpose of humanitarian action ought to be seriously considered if the massacre persists.

The Turks claimed that Muslims can not commit such atrocities - no need for armed intervention, then.

Those countries will never ever merge into one country in a million years... in fact it's quite likely that they might be broken down further... But that's a discussion for another thread |
