There will be a dip if Jobs dies. As to whether that dip keeps dipping or recovers is anyone's guess.

Steve Jobs really is a main player in Apple.

My opinion is that Apple will be fine without Jobs. I think Apple and their products and their supporters are all good or big enough for them to survive and prosper without Jobs.

It hasn't, but as far as the Apple product designers/engineers are concerned the iPad2 is is done and dusted - It's already at the manufacturing stage. These guys work on products at least 2-3 generations beyond what is already on the market.

Re: Steve Jobs, 6 weeks to live..

I do agree with all of you that the press should not jump on it and make " a guess " at a persons life.

However this is the time we live in, scum journalists will be out there day and night in hope of snapping that one picture , the one that will be sold to the highest bidder.

Makes me sick that people can live with themselves like that..

However i posted this not out of "voyeuristic" behaviour but more with the question in how do you approve/disapprove the way some newspapers work.

And what will happen with Apple now this is knowing.

I'm pretty sure iPad 2 is suppose to come out in April or something. Apple wouldn't release a new iteration so soon I don't think.

I wonder if the ipad 3 could be a Steve Jobs memorial edition. Bad taste I know I know

Re: Steve Jobs, 6 weeks to live..

Good point... who knows who the guy in the photo is. AM happy not to be famous or even interesting to most of the world. I prefer to keep my medical comings and going up to me to disclose. Seriously, I'd wear a disguise. Of course, my guess is that if indeed this is Jobs, he's using an alias within the medical center- that's what they do for most famous or infamous people to ensure that no one gets hold of his records. Works usually.

Re: Steve Jobs, 6 weeks to live..

see i don't believe it job.. the picture is dodgy..

They take a pic from behind, and then a picture from his hand.

If the camera was pointed a bit higher ,we could see his face and hand thus confirm who it is.

The person in question is only photographed from the back and then a close up of his hand.. i have my serious doubts..

The stock price fell from Jan 15 and bottomed below the MA30 on Jan21. Earnings were announced after market close on Jan 14, when it was also announced that Jobs would be taking an indefinite leave of absence. Jan 21 would have been a good time to get in. You'd be about 9% up by now.

Yesterday, AAPL made a new 52-week high. Which was also an all time high (I think)

Since iPhone 5 and iPad 2 are probably in final hardware, then rationally there is another 12 to 18 months of more of the same from Apple as far as product delivery is concerned.

But I would still tighten up my stop losses leading up to earnings, in case they were to miss a quarter.

Re: Steve Jobs, 6 weeks to live..

My dad is suffering from cancer at the moment. It is apparently one of the bad kinds. He was diagnosed a year ago, they wont operate but are treating him with Chemo. Doctors dont really say anything and we are all afraid to ask. No one mentions the word "Remission".

While his weight is low and he is thin, he hasnt had a dramatic loss (like the photo)................yet.

I feel like we have a new member of the family. Cancer. He (she?) has moved in with my parents, is at every dinner table, is on every phone call, did christmas with us, attended my daughters christening and is weighing on my brothers wedding decisions (much to my future sister-in-law's dismay). Every time I see an article like this Steve Job one, or hear someone elses cancer story I find myself scouring it looking for some shred of hope to grasp onto or for some angle that makes it altogether different from my Dads (so that I can think - well that wont happen to Dad). I find myself a member of a club that I dont want to be in but Im afraid if I leave the club its because weve lost him.

I hope Ill still be in the stupid club for many years to come.

You know its not uncommon for patients to name their cancer, a friend of mine calls his " jack", so whenever he refers to it , we talk about " jack ".. its there, its scaring us but makes it a bit easier to talk about.

I know the club all too well sadly enough, back in it since a few months with a close relative being diagnosed..stupid club..

Let's wait and see. The last time he left the company, and after a string of CEO changes the company was entrusted to Gil Amelio, a man who utterly failed to undestand the company's strengths and very almost ruined it all. Then Jobs came back of course. But Apple definitely needs a visonary at the helm, not just a generic manager.

The man has had a MEGA impact on the world. I'd be sad to see him go.

It is the 2nd highest valued company in the world, thanks to Steve. Surely rumours like these have impact on the day's trades, and perhaps intended so. As for me, I'll keep my meager shares.

National enquirer is perhaps not the most reliable news source, although, they are tenacious with this kind of stuff. Having said that, Jobs does deserve some privacy about his health status - despite being a public figure. Presumably, Apple has been planning for this contingency.

And pancreatic cancer is awful.. One of the worst to get.
Absolument

Re: Steve Jobs, 6 weeks to live..

If it would affect the stock price, it already would have happened. The average day trader doesn't affect stock prices. Institutional investors, etc do. They always have better information than the 'man on the street' and by the time said 'man' gets the same info, it's too late to do anything about it except pick up the scraps if they're quick.

Re: Steve Jobs, 6 weeks to live..

Hi,

though Apple is a very difficult company to like with Steve Jobs at it's helm, I wish a good recovery and for whatever time he has left to live the best quality life as possible.

However, irrelevant of how serious his condition is now it is clear that time that Apple looks for a successor. Without him there, it will be possible for Apple to undo a lot of the damage it his done to it's reputation with this walled garden approach/Steve knows better than you approach. The next few years will be challenge for Apple as Android looks like it will win the majority of the smartphone and probably slate market. Apple has been very good at building very strong marketing around devices that are evolutionary extensions of ideas from other companies but are pitched in such a way to look "revolutionary".
