38 Degrees

This is the website that stopped the forests being sold off in the UK, at least for the time being. Thankfully its also trying to make a difference in other areas as well. If enough people support it's worthy causes, who knows? Perhaps we won't need to follow Tunisia's example of peasceful protests to persuade this Government that actually, we're not so hard up that we can't afford public toilets or lollipop ladies, and yes, we do want George Osbourne, Lord Ashcroft, Phillip Green, Barclays et al to pay their taxes etc etc.

Anyway, enough of me. Have a look at the website, it speaks for itself. Sign the petitions. Donate some money. Its all for good causes

Great platform for grass-roots issues. But I see they spun off from MoveOn.org. Now, if they would only be impartial and non-partisan, and offered the platform to any persuasion of activist, that site would have the potential to pop, and play as important a role in the new world as Facebook and Twitter.

Re: 38 Degrees

Surely we don't need another facebook or twitter? I'm just about sick of hearing about them. Totally superfluous, if you ask me. Not that you did. Esp Facebook, I suppose I don't mind twitter as much as it is a bit more succint and to the point. And thus not quite totally as full of numpties. Still get people like Rio Ferdinand boring you on it though

Re: 38 Degrees

Actually just unsubscribed from this today - a few weeks back I sent an e-mail to my MP about the forest issue. I then got a mail from 38degrees saying "Wow! We did it!" which I thought was fair enough and jolly good show, etc.

However it transpires I had been added to a mailing list to receive (what I considered to be) an overly indignant weekly e-rant about various micro-issues.

Now, fair play to them that they're trying to apply their "people power" priniciple to other single-issue politics issues, but IMHO they need to tone done on their outraged style - the wording and rhetoric they use has totally switched me off to them.

Really?
"We were far from the only group working to stop the forest sell-off. It was achieved by so many of us working together.
Fantastic local groups, up and down the country, campaigned day and night to get these proposals scrapped.

The campaigning also took place on a national scale, with great work by organisations like Woodland Trust, Save Our Forests, Save Our Woods, Save Britain’s Forests, Greenpeace, WWF, National Trust, Ramblers and The British Horse Society."

Re: 38 Degrees

Alright, it was a website that worked with all the others mentioned, albeit in a very minor way. I apologise, I over egged them a bit. Still, it's all for good altrusitic and philanthropotic causes, so fair play to them, in my opinion. Sure beats getting your head cracked in and killed for walking home from the newsagent you own, anyway.
