You may have seen Hugh's Fish Fight if you have access to Channel 4 TV. Hugh Fearnley-Whittinstall campaigned on various issues relating to fish.
One of the key campaigns has been the amount of fish discarded back into the sea as it exceeds quotas. This has attracted over 650,000 signatures and the attention of UK MP's and the EU.
50% of the fish caught in the North Sea is thrown back dead due to these regulations.

Currently, EU boats in the North Sea have to throw away up to half of what they catch to stay within their quotas.
Fisheries Commissioner Maria Damanaki proposes instead to regulate fleets through limits on fishing time and greater use of measures such as CCTV.
She discussed the ideas with delegates from EU member states in Brussels on Tuesday, with the aim of finalising plans later in the year.
Despite this apparent success, more support is needed, especially around Europe. Whilst this isn't directly relevant to Switzerland, I am sure that many of you have friends and relatives elsewhere in Europe. All promotion of this campaign will help the cause. Thanks
