| | Subway overtakes McDonalds as Worlds #1 I find this claim hard to swallow... Sandwich group Subway has overtaken McDonald's as the world's largest restaurant chain, the company has said.
Subway had 33,749 sites across the globe at the end of last year, compared with 32,737 for McDonald's.In recent years, US-based Subway has made a major push into international markets with its successful franchised business model, which emphasises small, low-cost outlets. The privately-owned company said it had been "on a great run".
McDonald's said it was still growing but was committed to "being better, not just bigger".
Seems McD aren't disputing this.

The outlets may be low cost, but the food is anything but!

For me, it's the worst of the big chains that made it to Europe (obviously places like White Castle never did...). While I would consider McDonalds to be "fast n' dirty" it seems like a McDonalds burger is a pretty perfect version of what it's trying to be. By contrast, to me, a Subway sandwich is entirely inedible. The meats and cheeses are sub par but it's the bread that really kills the concept. It tastes like billowy flour - really nasty!

It's not really a fair comparison, based on sites, is it?
Subway need a booth. McD's need a bit more space.

Baking the bread makes the whole store smell super sickly ... | Quote: | | | | | It's not really a fair comparison, based on sites, is it?

I wouldn't pee on a Subway "restaurant" even if it was on fire.
I guess that many people lack this level of self-restraint, fire on no.
This would at least go part-way to explaining the "taste" of Subway products... | This user would like to thank for this useful post:

Funny personal story. I've had a fair bit of subway, some of it was okay, some of it wasn't, but I encountered one bizarre thing: if I ate at one particular subway restaurant, regardless of what I ordered (other than drinks), I'd get the runs. Didn't touch my mates, one of whom had eaten there on three of the same occasions on which I had (others ate there at different times). No other subway store did the same.
After this happened five times, I never ate at that particular subway again.
tbh, though, I haven't had subway for about ten years. Just doesn't appeal to me that much (and not because of that one store's bizarre effect on me).

10 years ago when I was in University I ate a lot of subways....
These days, I found them very sad. They used to put a lot of everything into the sandwich and now, you are lucky if you have more than 3 pieces of chicken and 2 olives in it....
It was difficult to close them and all the stuff were going out from everywhere. Now, you have more bread than anything else... | The following 2 users would like to thank Nil for this useful post:

I think it's obvious that the stale bread and sweet sweet curry sandwiches pumped out by Cogros (the Firm) are far worse. And while the bakeries do nice sandwiches (on great bread) they're always the same, Swiss style. You can't get any great Italian Mezzaluna or foccacia, nothing American style, no cheddar and branston.... I'll be honest with you SL, I can't think of a country that needs Subway more | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:

Here have a baguette with Tuna mayo, a bit of tomato on one side and bit of hard boiled egg on the other side.
When was a slice of hard boiled egg ever required in my tuna sandwich |
