London City Airport in Top 10 for Business Travel

I saw this article today that lists London City Airport at number 10 worldwide amongst business travellers. From my experience, and comments on EF, it seems to be very popular with those who have used it.

Quote:
Quick baggage claim and international arrivals processing make this one of the most efficient airports. There’s also an in-terminal rail connection.
Would this be in your top 10? What about the others listed, or are there any major omissions? There are no Swiss airports included.

*Mumbles about Swiss cancelling their LCY to BSL flights*

But yeah, it's a great, quick airport.

It's a great Airport. Same For George Best Airport in Belfast. Gibraltar Airport has to be one of the smallest International Airports ever. Bus to check in to gate less than 60 meters

Zurich is by far the most efficient Large International Airport I have used. Stansted is the best of the London Airports.

Gatwick is just plain awful. You walk for miles.

Absolutely. We always try to route through there whenever possible (in preference to LHR, AMS or any of the other big stuff) between Jockland and Fondueworld, as well as when heading to London and environs.

IIRC, the smallest in Europe - at least with "scheduled international services" - is (or at least was) Paros... again iirc, runway length about 2400feet, compared to Gib's and LCYs massive 5000footers

Did you see the update I posted. You can fly BSL-ZRH-LCY with Swiss.

Very nice airport, I've had the pleasure of sitting in the cockpit of a BAe-146 while landing at London City Airport (fortunately not the one in the following vid).

Happy landings..

Of all the London airports, London City has been the best experience for me every time. No hassle, no stress, easy to navigate, very pleasant staff and services - the list goes on and on...

Flying through LCY is my preferred option too.

Gatwick is horrible.

And i wish EasyJet would fly ZRH to Stansted.

I think the latter! I used to fly between London City and Luxembourg every other weekend in little Fokkers. Although my favourite form of flying, given the size of those little planes you are so much more susceptible to the vagaries of the weather. I had many, many hair-raising experiences on flights, from incredible turbulence where you feel like a feather in the wind, to very wobbly, bumpy landings, due to cross winds.

Anwyay, that aside, I also think that London City is a great airport - compact, friendly, accessible and not too much walking distance inside.

Unless the flight from Zurich to Basel takes zero time, it's not the same I'v done the (stupidly environmentally destroying) flight from ZRH to BSL before and it takes around 50 minutes end to end (check-in, wait, up, down, out of plane).

It's better to take the train unless one actually needs to be at or near Basel airport (in France).

LCY - as airports go, it rocks. Very quick to get through security then you're pretty much at the gate. Limited selection of shops in departures but who really cares? You're processed quickly and that makes it stand out from LHR and LGW.

Actually, that is one of the downsides of LCY. Owing to its location it is prone to fog, and my poor husband has had several flights cancelled or delayed due to it.

Re: London City Airport in Top 10 for Business Travel

I accidentally arrived at London City with a Swiss Army knife in my hand luggage. Instead of confiscating it Security told me to go to the kiosk, get a bag, and hand it in at the Swiss check-in as extra luggage. This I did, and there in Basel was my knife on the luggage belt.

Now isn't that a good service? It must be unique!

I had an example of excellent service at London City that I have mentioned previously. The Swiss check-in clerk closed his check-in desk to arrange a chauffeur driven car to take me to Heathrow as I hadn't realised my flight had been changed to leave from there.

It is a common mistake with Swiss bookings as they swap between LHR & LCY for Zurich.

I agree that Gatwick isn't all that special, though it has improved a little. One of its major flaws is mixing the domestic and international departures. Also you have to walk miles. I think that is a deliberate plan in arrivals to give the baggage staff more time.

My most disconcerting airport arrival was the old Los Rodeos airport on Tenerife in 1977. Seeing the remains of two crashed Jumbo Jets didn't help my confidence.

Re: London City Airport in Top 10 for Business Travel

We love City Airport and it is our favourite airport - if you print your boarding pass off you can turn up within a hour of take-off.

However - I must have flown from there 100 times but I have always been lucky that I have not experienced a bad landing due to wind.
A friend of mine flew in and had a landing like DP posted - he refuses to fly from there again as he said he was one of the most scary rides of his life
