What the hell are you talking about? Or is it some kind of US-centric reference that us European and British bods would have no clue about?

Sorry, internet sarcasm is hard to detect. The whole point is our fearless leader is sitting on his a$$ as the world burns. He is breaking our tradition of sticking our nose in every little conflict, choosing a side then bombing the hell out of the other. This is completly unacceptable. Japan is about to melt and Obama is deciding on who will win the Final Four (NCAA basketball tournament)

Just a rant really.

I'm pretty good at detecting sarcasm, and I know who Obama is and the current world crisis, But final four? K.U.? Rock Chalk? He could have been referring to the Cheltenham Gold Cup for all I knew.

I feel really sorry for anyone who has to face a journalist. You can really see comments taken out of context.

Journalist: "Can you comment on X's dismissal during the game"

Manager: "Well, we were playing yaketty yack yack, blah blah, yack it was tough yack blah blah yack yacketty yack, looked like a harsh call by the ref given yack blah blah blah continued reasoned discussion..."

Headline: X slams ref's role in game

Someone will have asked Obama that question and then decided to report it. Maybe this is a case where the messenger really should be shot? If Obama had said "look buddy, there's more serious things going on that I need to focus on..." can you imagine the outcry?

Soooo... you're a proponent of people doing completely without any "down time" it seems.

The Prez is a basketball fan, of course he'll have an opinion on goings-on with regard to said sport.

No one should make their entire life about gloom and doom, business and duty, not even the Prez.

(You're in Switzerland now, people here are actually encouraged to take vacations - five weeks worth even - so get with the program and loosen up a bit already)

Emm you're referring to a President that has passed more legislation than any other President since FDR in his 2+ years in office. He's not exactly sitting on his hands. I remember GW being on vacation on 9/11. What do you suggest Obama do? Issue more debt to spread "freedom and democracy" through a military intervention in the Middle East and pay for the reconstruction of Japan's earthquake effected region by heating up the money press at the Federal Reserve? I'm happy the US is pursuing a more restrictive foreign policy. How can we stick our noses in other countries business when our own country is teetering on bankruptcy? At least those are my thoughts.

Well, quantity is not quality, and signing a law doesn't take a lot of effort.

But this is a pretty silly thing to rant about. Guess what? I had a customer crisis one day. He was fairly animated and unhappy about something. However, as there was nothing I could do about it until morning anyway, I still went for my evening run at 9pm, then read a book afterwards. Guess that makes me a bad person too, on a smaller scale?

Not that I am a fan of G.W but he was story telling to class room full of children on 911 (remeber him reading the book upside down?), not excatly being on vacation. As I said earlier my post was sarcastic as in I am glad he picked K.U as that is my favorite NCAA basketball team. And I am GLAD we are not in every little conflict happening right now. (a refreshing change) But at the same time he could exert a little bit of his influence in Africa to make change there WITHOUT U.S military involvement. However what is happening in Japan affects the whole world and I don`t know what all can be done as I am not a nuclear scientist, but I feel the U.S, and the rest of the world could do more. Of course Japan could be restricting any efforts by the international communtiy to help with the nuclear situation.

My whole point for this thread is me being a sacrcastic little prick trying to stir a pot ( I was really bored yesterday) And what should Obama do? I dont know, but what he is doing looks (in the public eye) like he is just sitting around. Just my two cents.

That's totally a Fox News talking point.

He's the President, but he's not Superman. Let him live like a normal human being for at least part of his waking day. How long does it take to pick a final four? Do you pine over disasters 24/7 or do you take downtime to entertain yourself?

Meanwhile, New Gingrich proposed his "final four" points for his Presidential campaign. His last two bullets were "smaller government" and "strengthening borders". I want to see how he'd strengthen the borders with a smaller government. *LOUD BUZZER* Wrong! not going to happen!

(yes, liberals watch Fox, too. It's good for a laugh and a groan.)

And he would get a lot more done if he didn't have the obstinent (I can't spell it, sorry) Republicans threatening to fillibuster everything. Now he's got a Repulican controlled House full of Teabagging nut jobs to contend with. I'd also argue that he should call their hand more often, and be less collaborative. But that's not Obama's style.

Exactly. I get my news from comedy central and I get my comedy from Fox news. Which is why I posted this thread after a quick visit to the fox website. "HOW DARE THE PRESIDENT PICK THE FINAL FOUR IN THESE TIMES"
seemed to be their main theme. As I said, just trying to stir the pot

Well in that case I think we should exert our frustration with the international organizations (UN, World Bank, IMF etc.) who should be responding to such a crisis with aid, financial support and by spreading public awareness about the issue. Isn't that why each member of the UN contributes tax dollars every year to the organization? Having written that I think the response on the international level has been pretty swift and comprehensive. I mean if you're really itching to have something done, maybe you should book a plane ticket to Japan and volunteer with the relief effort .
