Re: Syria - It ain't over till it's over

Arming these rebels is beyond stupid. The good thing is Trump will be president soon and will very likely put an end to this madness. It's Assad or perpetual war. The sooner he regains control, the better.

The wailing press needs to get over Aleppo. Yes, it's grim, but once it's over there'll be some sort of peace.

Aleppo is just a battle, not the war. So no there will no sort of peace

Aleppo: Assad's offensive on divided Syrian city handed Palmyra back to Isis and could spark new militant gains
Monitors say Isis' advance came days after Russian and Iranian troops withdrawn from ancient city to fight in Aleppo
Isis has further capitalised on its victory in Palmyra to seize tanks, armoured vehicles, missiles, weapons, ammunition and equipment abandoned by Russian and Syrian forces.

Propaganda footage showed militants plundering a Russian airbase on the outskirts of the ancient city, a Unesco world heritage site,

Re: Syria - It ain't over till it's over

Russia, Iran & Assad proved themselves to be no better than ISIS, probably worse when casualties are counted.

There are no good solutions for the mess Syria is in. As I wrote before - losing means dying for all sides (inc. civilians). That's why this war will drag on.

The city has been bombed to bits, untold lives lost, yet the Syrians are still way more festive than the Swiss...

The bombing was on east Aleppo, that probably makes this celebration in west Aleppo akin to a victory parade. And how much of it has been prearranged, staged, is of course not mentioned.

Syrian rebel groups announced today that they had decided to freeze any talks about their possible participation in Syrian peace negotiations being prepared by Moscow in Kazakhstan unless the Syrian government and its Iran-backed allies end what it said were violations of a ceasefire.

In a statement, the rebel groups also said that any territorial advances by the army and Iran-backed militias that are fighting alongside it would end the fragile ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey that came into effect on Friday.

I haven't followed the discussion much, but I was relieved when Aleppo was finally cleared of the "moderate" rebels.
Say what you want about Assad, but he never killed people for their religion or non-religion.

Assad (father and sons) killed plenty of people for various reasons. His german designed torture chambers are hellish. Sadly, the opposition isnt better.

I should have probably phrased it better in my last comment.
By no means do I think that Assad was a good and democratic ruler. But between him and the alternative of the "moderate" rebels, I would choose him any day.

Do you mean to say you think the current situation is better than that before the civil war?

No, I meant to say that Lewton's posts would rapidly have him transferred to a Syrian torture chamber prison

After such an argument I am convinced: Assad has to go and Syria needs a a government led by Al-Nusra.

Anyone who's been paying attention (to anything but the mainstream media) knows that it's not and never was a "civil war".

So are you claiming that those fighting Assad are from abroad? No locals?

Otherwise it's time for you to look up the definition of civil war.
