While I agree that the gathering at Ground Zero and in DC can be viewed as being in poor taste, please, just for a moment try to remember that many (tens of thousands) of these people lost loved ones at the instruction of that monster. This is the first sigh of relief and feeling of closure for them.
I was flying east that fateful morning and have felt lucky to this day that the plane I was on was not involved. I am sure it is a memory that will never fade for many Americans, especially those who lost loved ones during or as a result of the attack.
I, for one, have never felt better after crying this morning having heard the news on the radio.

He has delivered what the republicans couldnt do - justice served on a plate to hungry Americans for the 9/11 incident. I can only imagine what they've been through, and to have closure is a huge relief. Sadly, there will always be another nutter/fanatic up for the post of Chief Terrorist. But I wont take away from what is, a remarkably positive occasion. | The following 4 users would like to thank summerrain for this useful post:

He killed a couple thousand, the US military has killed far more than that in the middle east. The military videos of American soldiers picking off with sniper shots civilians in the street, cheering at their deaths. That is monstrous.

To think this has anything to do with the upcoming election is farcical. It's too far out, and quite honestly, I would like to believe that most Americans are smart enought to realize that, while the President of the US is the head of the military, he really doesn't run that show. What he deserves credit for, in my opinion, is for deciding to not let anyone know the raid was happening, e.g. Pakistani govt officials or any other "Allies" for that matter.
That said, I would have bet the farm that the Bush administration was going to pull Osama bin Laden out of hat to gain a second term, as it would have taken America's mind off the fact that no weapons of mass desctruction were found in Iraq, coming full circle from using Iraq to take our mind off the fact that we could not capture Bin Laden.

My question is, now that the worlds number 1 most wanted man is accounted for, is there any chance that some of the 700 Billion that the US Department of Defense has asked for next year could be redirected away from more predator drones to Education, Healthcare, civilian scientific research, etc?

Well that didn't happen.
And a spike? Really? | Quote: | | | | | What should they have done? Leave it there? I would have put the head on a spike in the town squares of Islamabad or Kabul.
They however need the body because they will give him a proper burial in accordance with islamic law. Plus they also need it in case people start to question whether he was really killed

I hate Twitter but this is a bit nifty. A guy tweeting while the attack was going on.

Is this a trick question? | Quote: | | | | | - Bin Laden's recent death was announced by the president of the United States.
- Bin Ladens death a long time ago was announced by an anonymous person in an online forum.
Now, who is more credible? | | | | | | This user groans at i-b-deborah for this post:

What is the point of these comparisons?

There will be more military deaths in the next 6 months that there have been in the last 18 to 24 months as the New leader of Al Qaeda will be looking to make his mark and the Fighters will be looking for revenge.
Hope im wrong but from past experience of serving in these areas its what normally happens.
