Re: US gov. claiming Osama bin Laden killed.

US president announces death of Bin Laden.
Numerous pundits on Internet forums express doubt and claim all others are sheep.

It's surprising the latter aren't more famous and reknowned for their critical thinking skills and data mining abilities.

Re: US gov. claiming Osama bin Laden killed.

I noted as well that Obama's speech referred to Bin Laden's role as the leader of al Qaeda for the last 20 years, but didn't refer to his time as leader before that, when the USA were quite happy to supply him with cash and weapons to fund his campaign against the Russians in Afghanistan.

God Bless Rose-tinted spectacles.

Also the fact that al Qaeda was invented by the US so that members could be prosecuted under the same laws used for members of the Mafia and other such organisations. I love the fact that al Qaeda is held responsible for anything kicking off in the world, it's so much more terrifying if the average in-duh-vidual thinks that there is a huge organisation behind these events.

Interesting viewpoint - would you apply the same logic to those Afghan citizens who might celebrate in the streets of Kabul in the event of a successful assassination of Obama?

The world is not divided into "good guys" and "bad guys" in such clear terms.

And seeing video of Americans celebrating and singing god bless america, rejoicing made me think of exactly that - those who go out into the streets in Kabul, Iran, etc. with guns in the air to celebrate deaths.

Like the in-duh-viduals who instead think that the secret USA government is the huge organisation behind anything that kicks off in the world.

Ah, but what makes a monster? He killed a couple thousand, the US military has killed far more than that in the middle east. The military videos of American soldiers picking off with sniper shots civilians in the street, cheering at their deaths. That is monstrous.
I agree that the US "death squads" are horrific, but I would put money on the fact that more people have been killed by non-Americans than by Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan (I could have said Muslims killed by Muslims, but we're not going there again. Please ).

Re: US gov. claiming Osama bin Laden killed.

From today's newspapers

"In the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority welcomed Bin Laden's death."

"Getting rid of Bin Laden is good for the cause of peace worldwide but what counts is to overcome the discourse and the methods - the violent methods - that were created and encouraged by Bin Laden and others in the world," PA spokesman Ghassan Khatib said.

Re: US gov. claiming Osama bin Laden killed.

Just one week ago the media worldwide were full of stories about the wikileak of the Al Qaeda threat of a "nuclear hellstorm" in the event that Bin Laden was ever killed or captured. So far I've not heard one mention of that story today. Lets hope that it was all just hot air from a bunch of frustrated *&^%s.

The original story as reported by newspapers around the world on April 25 was
"WASHINGTON: Al-Qaida terrorists have threatened to unleash a "nuclear hellstorm" on the West if their leader and world's most wanted terrorist Osama bin Laden is nabbed.

A senior al-Qaida commander has claimed that the terror group has stashed away a nuclear bomb in Europe which will be detonated if bin Laden is ever caught or assassinated, according to new top secret files made public by internet whistleblower WikiLeaks.

The documents are secret details of the background to the capture of each of the 780 people held at or have passed through the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba, along with their medical condition and the information they have provided during interrogations."

Re: US gov. claiming Osama bin Laden killed.

Al Qaida is an organisation that has revelled in Osama bin Laden`s view of being anti west in terms of policies, culture and influence. From Hamas killers in Gaza to Hizbollah terrorists in Lebenon to islamist fighters across South-East Asia, they all have one common approach. This is to use suicide bombing as its main tool of destruction. Sorry, he will not be missed by me.

He probably won't be missed by the world's terrorists either. They'll carry on killing quite happily without him.
