I don't understand why they "burried" him in the sea? Were they too scared to keep the body in the US? Since there is no way to verify it, I assume they kept the body.
The world is certainly a safer place today, but tomorrow other osama's will be aligning unfortunately.
2011 has been so far quite a special year:
- revolutions in arab countries
- tsunami/nuclear catastrophy in Japan
- bin laden caught & killed
- hamas & plo agreement
and there are more to come especially in the middle-east.

One reason is that if you bury him and have a known grave then you create a site for martyrdom. Tough to do that with a burial at sea. Unpleasant real politik, but there it is.

Did someone just said anti-americanism? No, my lad, it is not anti-americanism to say that America achieved nothing but bloodshed, that, in my opinion was absolutely unnecessarily!

That's probably why you don't run the place. Your opinion is that he should have been allowed to live his days out undisturbed then? What exactly is your opinion and what proof do you have that killing him (whether the intended result or not) was more bloodshed than allowing him to live would have caused?

You don't?

As already quoted here & checked with other sources
"If it is feared that an enemy may dig up the grave and exhume the dead body and amputate its ears or nose or other limbs, it should be lowered into sea, if possible, as stated in the foregoing rule"

Please remember that "Enemy Combatant" is a phrase coined* to circumvent Geneva Conventions during an unconventional war. It's a carte blanche to carry out war crimes, nothing more.

Did he only become a murdering terrorist after the US stopped funding him or before?

Seriously, the Prez at the time said he was responsible for 9/11...I for one would like to see the evidence....call me cynical but I tend not to believe everything that comes out of a politicians mouth.
Especially in the middle of a national crisis when they desperately need someone to blame.

There are quite a few reasons and burying the man at sea was about the stupidest thing they could have done.

It is all a bit odd to me firstly that no one is mentioning that they executed him without a trial, which is just plain wrong and secondly that they could have had him in 2001 if Bush had actually been a decent human being instead of utter scum,

Also do people still really believe that OBL was the head of some James Bond type super crime organisation...or just a name the US plucked out of a hat so they could have a focal point to blame.

About "or just a name the US plucked out of a hat so they could have a focal point to blame"

No, he was the name who was distributing videos & tapes claiming terrorist murder successes & threatening to murder me & you & lots of other people.
