Oh so wrong. If he hadn't taken the injunction, you'd have known about it much sooner. That's point you seem to be failing to get.

You are allowed a private life - as in the press are not interested in you.

Rich and/or famous people are not, simple because their are rich and/or famous. Those who sell glossy mags believe they have a right to know all the details of everything in the name of "public interest", and nothing sells better than sex.
no I wouldn't - I don't read that nonsense

I would be gossiped about amongst my peers and those who know me for far less - so what. If I were famous, which I have no desire to be I could expect the gossip to be in print too, again, so what. If they printed something false I could then sue, as a nobody I have to live with any lies which are spread about me

He knows very well that these stories sell, he is not the first sportsman to be caught in such a way, he should have seen this coming. Can't do the time don't do the crime

rich <> famous

plenty of rich people have affairs but we don't hear about it as they are not famous.

Your a footballer, you want all that fame, money and everything that brings, like all those endorsements, well news flash guys, you have to take the bad with the good

Want to have an affair? then try doing it with a normal person, not some freak attention seeking whore from a crap reality tv show

better still, don't get married in the first place and then you can shag whoever you want.

I think Imogen whatsername should be thanking her lucky stars. the amount of publicity she has gleaned from this is huge. more publicity = more people looking for pictures of her with her kit off, which of course she'll happily supply as long as you pay her some hard earned spendable money.

which is what she has been after all along.

What crime has he committed exactly?

Sorry, but you'd have known about it, as it would have made the front pages somewhere - even if you don't know the details, you'd have seen the headline.

Actually Giggs is one of the few people that claims he was not in it for the fame, and has pretty much always done the "talking" on the pitch (and no I am not a Man U or Wales fan!). If you compare him to Beckham, who's self admitted goal was "to be famous" there's a huge difference.

Yes he's got fame and money and sponsorship, but that's based on his job.

If you want to debate the merits of overpaid footballers, then start another thread

Are you aware that "don't do the crime" and "get away with murder" are not used literally?

Where would I see the headlines, I read no papers and have no television.

I found this interesting from the point of view of trying to sue twitter users, that is what made me read this thread. It is no longer interesting and I think I will be off now

not so fast! everyone s opinion on this is valid so don`t bail out yet
this isnt a moral argument, its most important aspect is that an overpaid football player has taken advantage of a weak judiciary ruling decided by cheating money grabbing holier than hou mps for fame seeking and reelection priorities. continue the debate!

Is that a criminal offence in the UK?

Wow! Really!?

Yes, I am.

My point is that IMO the press don't have the right to pry into people's private lives to make their own living. Yet people (i.e. primarily you, BB2 and Grumpygit) seem to think that because he's rich, famous and successful, he's fair game. The use of "don't do the crime..." to me suggests that you think he's done something wrong.

Fine, he may have "done wrong". But he hasn't broken any criminal law and he has as much right to defend his privacy as you or I. The difference is that he has to fend off a pack of hyenas (the press). This seems to pass you by completely, as you basically keep on saying that because he's rich and famous, he's fair game, when really nobody is.

It is not in the public interest to know that Giggs shagged X, Y or Z if in doing so, he did not break any criminal law or does not put him in a conflict of interest situation. Why then, should the press have any right to report it, when it only benefits them?

Seeing as the press do what they want, measures like the Superinjunction are needed to keep them in control. (Edit: until parliament actually pulls their collective finger out - allegedly - and actually tables some privacy laws.)

Ryan Giggs today admitted to suffering from homesickness, saying that even though he's happy in Manchester he does Miss Wales occasionally...

It's a social offence, frowned upon by many and is punishable by 75000 tweets and endless tinternets dicussions until you can no longer hack it and end up topping yourself... In answer to your question... No

Make up your mind, eh?

So now we both know it is not a criminal offence in the UK (it was a rhetorical question FTW).

Why do you automatically assume it will lead to divorce? For all you know Giggs and Mrs Giggs may be happy swingers.

Aha! We've learned something new today! Even if you don't commit a criminal offence you can still generate global (ok only the UK probably) hysteria!
