| | Tornado decimates Missouri city
A massive tornado has cut a deadly swath through a Missouri city, turning homes into rubble, destroying the local high school, ripping huge chunks out of a hospital and reportedly killing at least 24 people. SMH | This user would like to thank jrspet for this useful post: | |

One of the deadliest Tornado seasons I can remember...
Global warming, can we expect this to continue, or just an unusual year ?
It must be horrifying to get caught up close to one of these, Nature at it's worst.

My friends and family have friends and family in that area, and in the others affected by the tornadoes last month. Some of the family of one of my sisters-in-law lost everything last month in Tennessee.
Although I've seen pictures here of whole swaths of downed trees due to high winds coming whipping around the mountains, nothing scares me quite so bad as tornadoes and thankfully, the topography of the land here breaks things up before they get a chance to really form.

Just watching on the lunchtime news. Total devastation of homes yet again.
Hope all your loved ones are safe and thinking of all those poor people that have lost everything.

As a weather enthusiast who grew up in Saint Louis, I don't remember twisters so frequent, so numerous and so deadly. It isn't very often there are casualties and even when there are, they are in the single digits.
The F4/F5 are rare...at least they used to be. I miss a good thunderstorm with green skies but, if this is going to become the new normal, maybe I'll learn to live with boring.

I missed this one in the news. My sister just recently moved from Missouri, great timing.
