Silvio Berlusconi lost MILANO (plus Napoli, Trieste + Cagliari)

The party of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi lost the elections for mayor in Milano, Napoli, Trieste and Cagliari and Novara. Particularily the defeat in Milano counts, and signals a return of the Centre and the Left, and in a way the return of the Centro - Sinistra, the alliance of Centrists and Leftists. Pressure already is growing on Umberto Bossi, the chief of the Lega Nord, to leave the alliance with Berlusconi as swiftly as possible .

As they say "could not happen to a nicer guy "

Whichever party wins they will have a hard road ahead of them to keep the country economically viable. I also foresee some more info coming out about Gadaffi & political links with major Italian politicians.

The Italian economy is "viable" but also in future will have a hard time to keep their national government "viable".

"Innovative accounting" is needed to cover up secret payments to government officials and to keep taxes down

It will happen, really soon..

Quote:
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has agreed to resign following the adoption of key economic reforms promised to the European Union, the Italian president's office said in a statement today.
"Once this commitment has been carried out, the prime minister will submit his resignation to the head of state," read the statement, which came after consultations between Berlusconi and President Giorgio Napolitano.

The voting about those programs will only be in a few weeks time. I do not trust the man. He may find ways to extend the deadline for weeks, for months, for years

Re: Silvio Berlusconi lost MILANO (plus Napoli, Trieste + Cagliari)

the main reason why he cannot afford to resign is that he faces prison the day he is not protected by parliamentary immunity.
so this outrageous "resignment by instalments" is meant to buy him time to find a comfortable way out, from designing an adequate defense strategy in all the trials which are facing him (which he will have no excuses any more for not attending) OR for escaping to antigua with all his girls and live there happily ever after.

And so it has happened....

BBC

Quote:
Italy's President Giorgio Napolitano is starting a series of meetings with senior politicians to try to agree on a new caretaker government after PM Silvio Berlusconi resigned on Saturday.

Right. I indeed underestimated Mr Giorgio Napolitano who has shown his powers in a way I did not expect ! At the other end I still remember how swiftly Bettino Craxi vanished to a nice home in Carthage/SidiBouSaïd north of Tunis, in order to avoid further problems with the Italian judiciary. It is easy to imagine Mr Berlusconi not to be too eager to spend days or weeks in the "Carcere Regina Coeli" of Roma
