I don't think that Ken Livingstone was ever a part of New Labour. that was the main reason for his downfall. In the mayoral elections he was virtually an independent due to lack of New Labour support.


Isn't the whole News International thing getting a bit out of hand? Apart from the despicable Milly Dowler phone hacking, and possibly Sean Hoare's death (if there is a connection), there has been very little real damage caused.

I am sure that corruption and the like is going on in other media and will do so in the future, whatever the final outcome of this. There are many other issues that are more important. e.g. the economy.

Well when the CEO of a newspaper says openly to a parliamentary committee that they regularly paid bribes to the Met, I think thats not bad for damage.

I'm not suggesting that any of it is right, or shouldn't be investigated. It just seems to me that the overall reaction has been disproportionate.

It's the depth of the corruption and exposure that's the problem.
Suspecting that the Met and the politicians are not completely honest is rather different to knowing that they're total criminals, caring not a jot for anything other than their own gain and glorification.
And who cares about the economy? it's only slime and tits that sell newspapers in the UK.

I agree. But that's the nature of journalism in today's 24 hour sound-bite world. I think it's quite cool to see them get a taste of their own medicine for a change.

Rupert Murdoch is up in a few minutes. I heard some American commentator on the TV saying that Murdoch will be no good in this situation as he's liable to get agitated regardless of how much coaching he's given.
