But - according to your profile - the bank you work for makes NI look like the bloody tooth fairy.

Whilst that might be true, I am not aware of any activities CS has performed which come close to the lack of moral fibre demonstrated by NI / Brooks / Murdoch.

Does CS advertise in their rags?

No idea, I don't take any papers, UK or otherwise, I wouldn't have thought so though, CS has no presence in the UK for high street banking and without being too condescending, maybe NotW is not the ideal place to be placing advertising for high net worth clients!

So is The Times and The Sun.

I find it amazing that a group like new corp can publish a high quality broadsheet (although the standard is declining) and run the Fox news channel. They really are polar opposites!

The Times hasn't been a broadsheet, high quality or otherwise, for quite some, erm, time now. Hell, I remember when the News of the Screws was a broadsheet format.

How would you know?

I certainly wouldn't declare any bank morally enlightened

I wouldn't and I don't, which is what I said in the quote above. I am not aware of any.

We will say The Sunday Times then...that's a broadsheet.

I read the Sun and the the Times every day. It's amazing how similar some articles are now

Yep, that's pretty bad, but that's one or possibly two teams in the bank getting greedy, not the same as someone on our BoD issuing an order to get Iranian money any way we can.

The BoD may have done that, or they may not have. Neither you nor I will ever know.

Is this not, in essence, a million miles away from Ms Brooks' statement to staff yesterday?

People / Person in this team could have been involved, definitely.

Banks pay RMs / whoever brings a new high net-worth client into the bank a nice % of the money they bring in, something around 0.5%. If someone was able to bring in ~$1bn from Iran, that would leave him about $5m to distribute amongst his helpers - I think plenty of greedy people could be tempted by that, and really, how many people would need to be in on it? 5 maybe, so a cool $1m each for the risk...not bad.

I think the difference is the degree of separation.

It would probably be very difficult for the head of the compliance team to deny knowledge (unless he wanted to be seen as massively incompetant), maybe even his line manager. These people are probably VPs / DIRs at highest. This is a long way down the chain from the BoD in a bank.

In the NotW, Brooks edited the paper (ok, clearly had sub-eds below), and then directly reported into the head honcho. It is highly unlikely Brooks (or Wade back then!) didn't know as she would have had a direct report into her with full knowledge of it, and in turn, I can't see her not informing RM of how they got certain details - neither of them are stupid people, just $hits.

7/7 families hacked as well. How do they hack the voicemail exactly? Just guess the password or something?
