Closing the paper won't save them from having to pay out though. The paper product isn't being produced but the legal entity still exists.
Yes it may continue to exist as a limited company. News International are simply limiting their liability.

Call me cynical, but this looks to me like a neat commercial decision. I wonder how long it will be before another News International Sunday tabloid is created to take its place. New brand, new start, without any of the immoral baggage.
The SUN on Sunday sounds about right. Few weeks, new brand/name. Same crap differant name!

Channel 4 news is about to start for quality coverage but I'll quickly check channel 5 news as it's produced by Sky. Might be worth a look.

Re: News of the world phone hacking - Milly Dowler

Channel 5 had full interviews with James Murdoch where other news broadcasts only had excerpts.

Channel 4 had a good Dispatches piece about a victim of a sexual assault by a minor celeb whose identity was discovered and revealed insofar as she had hacks at her door even dropping cash through her letter box to get the story which she'd given to the police in confidence.
Then Jon Snow interviewed actress Lesley Ashe whose kids' phones were hacked while she was in hospital. She said her lawyer was writing to The Daily Mail who published details only her family could have known from telephone communications.
So it's possibly (probably/definitely) not just NOTW now.

This reminds me of the British MPs expenses scandal where it's like peeling an onion.

Of course it's not just the News of the World.
I fear it goes much, much deeper than that and I somehow hope we never do get to the bottom of it as it may well shatter the few illusions we Brits have left about public and private morality.
They're now playing the damage-limitation game and hoping that by shutting down one loathsome rag, and opening another, equally loathsome, but with a different name, we'll all be hoodwinked, forget about it, and get back to being football hooligans.

The Onion is the only reliable news site these days.

Huffington Post went UK today and the hits just keep on coming: Coulson is set to be arrested...

The Huffingtonpost eh?
Now that's a really honourable option

Don't believe everything you read Ceppy!

Unless it is in the NotW, that is probably true as they have quite reliable sources.

Hi,

I just found this article which explains just how easy it is to do this. Really you should always have a pin code enabled even if you are ringing from own phone. The spoof the caller id and the operators make no checks !!!

Have a great weekend

Re: News of the world phone hacking - Milly Dowler

Just had an interesting thought. Every time we read "sources close to the player/actor/singer etc...", do they really mean "from what we can gather from their hacked voicemail account...."?

And what the devil are we going to do without it? Read the Huffington post it seems, or the Sun on Sunday now the NotW has gone tits-up.
Got to get them tits somewhere.

Re: News of the world phone hacking - Milly Dowler

Latest development.

They have secretly been deleting email archives of emails between executives and the reporters on the ground, in an attempt to hinder the police investigation.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011...-international

This is now ridiculous, I know that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but this blatant attempt at perverting the course of justice needs to be punished, vigourously.

Heads must roll, jail time must be handed out, not just to Coulson, but to ANYONE found to have ordered these emails be removed also. Punitive fines must also be meted out, Britain must show that this flagrant abuse of our laws will not be tolerated.

Re: News of the world phone hacking - Milly Dowler

Anyone watch Question Time last night?
The whole programme was devoted to this topic. Hugh Grant was on and have to say he was brilliant - Journalist, MPs and lovely Shirley Williams - as someone who has had his phone hacked - they did not get away with anything.
Have to say he has gone up in my estimation...

Me too - and I loathe the slimy little git.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day my nation will rise up and say No! This is not the press we deserve.

I have a dream that in the red tops of Wapping, brave voices will adopt the mantra of Meatloaf; ‘I would do anything for news, but I won’t do that.’

I have a dream that even the state of Westminster, a desert place prone to cronyism and corruption, will prize principle above penetration.

I have a dream that my four little god-children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by a phone-on or panel of nomarks, but by the quality of their character away from the camera.

I have a dream that one day, the people will care more about Chen Jianping than Cheryl Cole, take more interest in Jetsun Pema than Jordan.
I have a dream today.

Or maybe I'm just dreaming.

Would you like a Gipfeli with your morning coffee?

That woman Brooks has been dropped by NI from leading the investigation into herself. Goodness, progress isn't an illusion...
