It has been well known for a while that they have been hacking public figures and celebs for gossip, which I sort of allowed on my moral compass (I shouldn't have, I know, but I am mainly lazy!), but hacking the voicemail of a missing 13 year old girl, and deleting the messages to cover their tracks / make more space for new messages is ABSOLUTELY sick. They have impeded a police investigation and made a situation even worse for a clearly distraught family.
As of 5 minutes ago, I severed all ties I had to the News Corp empire by cancelling my SKY subscription and whilst I respect everyone's individual moral compass, I don't think it is right to be funding an organisation that at best tolerates and at worst encourages such behaviour.
Glad to have got that off my chest!

I agree its a scandal and that the reporter and the management should now face the law, but it was Sky that broke the story for me so I have a hard time cancelling my subscription

I was under the impression that the Grauniad broke the story, and maybe Sky News is following up on it?
Either way, if a criminal comes out and admits a crime that everyone knows he committed, does that mean we should still buy his wares? No real answer, down to your moral choice.

Yep, but do you condemn his whole family and dog as well?

Nice. For those without sky to cancel a handy list of News Corps other assets can be found:
Paxman on Newsnight last night delivered a stunning attack on News International. The liberal Media world is out for NI and rightly so IMO.
About time the other peers stepped in. It really tarnishes the whole of Newspaper publishing. The Times et al should make loud condemnation...
But the silence is deafening. Maybe they are afraid they too will get caught out. Maybe they have all been up to this sleeze and are just keeping quiet.

Isn't The Times NI too? Just The Sun for literates these days...

We are mostly corporate schills, and I doubt many people would have too much sympathy for me if the bank I work for, which may or may not have received tax-payers money, went bust. I at least have the comfort that to the best of my knowledge, my employers at the top level aren't criminals with an evil agenda...

As if it couldn't get any worse, I just read that they may have also hacked the phones of the parents of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011...amilies-police. I wonder how much more they're hiding?
