Car bomb.....so how the explosion happened in last floor, this doesn't make sense

First of all, I'm no expert, but surely the type of explosives, the amount and the location is going to dictate the impact. Can you say for sure, judging by this photograph, that it is NOT the result of a car bomb? I think it's dangerous to jump to conclusions. I prefer sticking to facts, preferrably presented by the Norwegian police force.

Apparently all western media kinda lost the hype interest in the story now after discovering it was Christian fundamentalist and not Islamists behind the attack.....yesterday all their site showed big font title "Terror attack in Norway". today it's all cornered down and some still discussing Islamists, these people are just so awkward and literally bizarre

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully it's life prison. This person or persons should not be made to walk free again, for such a heinous crime, on unsuspecting innocent people.

Islamic terrorism: international in nature - of great interest to everyone else;

Nationalist/Christian terrorism: domestic in nature - of little interest to everyone else;

I blame the Jews!

Oh, hang on. Someone already did that.

My mistake...

Here's why i concluded so:
  • Windows in the second floor showing clearly internal explosion.
  • All the debris is from inside out as it appears.
  • Looking at videos and other photos from different angles in the site, there's no ground holes which are normally result of car bombing.

My guess would be, depending on the type explosives used, the bomb should have been located in the ground or first floor, where all the pressure appears to have happened, upper floors shows less damages and more fire.

Car bomb.....so how the explosion happened in last floor, this doesn't make sense

On other news, Norwegian police suspect describe the mass killing of as "Christian fundamentalist!"...Extreme right it is......the last question now, who gave him the bombs and trained him??

I guess now it's clear i shouldn't have been attacked for guessing that couple of pages back

A) first of all, the terrorist was a company owner and had access to material you need to make any kind of bomb. And he apparently also had the education needed
B) much of how a bomb "works" depends on
--- a) the exact composition of materials used
--- b) the exact location of the bomb
--- c) the exact "position" of the surroundings (windows open ? )
C) also "outer influences" like weather, winds etc have a role

And so, I leave the job to find these things out to the experts.

Your question how a car bomb can affect an upper floor most and the lower floor less is easy to answer. A bomb generally explodes in all directions. As the way downward however is blocked, most of the explosive energy goes UPWARDS. So that at least parts of the bomb if not most of it went up by between 5 and 30 meters, past much of the wall, and therefore DID hit the upper part of the house.

The other question is also easy to answer. Why the immense damage to other buildings ? As explained above, the explosive energies take the easiest route, This means that the pressure waves went AWAY from the wall and so, as an indirect result did hit walls adjacent to the main object.

But back to square one, I leave the job to find out the details to the experts in place

Re: Explosion in Oslo

Wait a minute... I didn't read that he was a christian fundamentalist. From the aftenposten website again, he called himself nationalist and christian, and the forum he posted under his real name is a general anti-islam anti-multicultural national-patriotic forum with all kinds of discussions, nothing like a typical set archetypal ideology.

The guy himself writes about hate-ideology that the west has to fight against, insisting a lot on marxism, which seems very clearly to be anything on the left side of the political spectrum, but also in his eyes complying right parties, islamism and nazism. In the link given in this thread earlier, also to be found in the norwegian news-websites, he does not talk about race at all and does not take a religious stand on politics. He has a undefined nationalism, against islam, but also against the dominating political culture in Norway (and he says in the west in general) that originates mostly in the socio-democratic movement. The rhetorics on that forum is the similar to any neo-conservative think tank but without any reference to the american political reality. He even says in one message that he takes his distance from the US as the questions are not transferable over to EUrope in his view, as the US by definition is a multicultural country and that Europe could in his view still fight and avoid becoming multicultural. His main target in that forum is called by him "marxism". His archetypal ennemy (Feindbild) is non-western mainly islam and anything remotely "socialist" as betrayers. The only context in which he refers to Jews is as victims of nazism.

(I hadn't read that much Norwegian for ages )

What you describe as "ground holes .... normally result of car bombing" is the result of the simple fact that most car bombs, particularily if aimed against the people INSIDE the car, are either mounted below the "housing" or at least right at the bottom somewhere. If the bomb however is mounted fairly high-up inside the car, it has no impact on the ground.

An internal bomb of course may be possible. But then, the building would have swallowed a big deal of the explosive energies. I however refuse to make any final judgment and also in this case rather feal like leaving it to the experts

The last question now is who gave him the bombs and trained him?

The massacre isn't even 24h old, victims haven't all been identified, evidence hasn't been collected and the motivation of the suspect is still not completely established. A tendency to jump to conclusions and throw out conspiracy theories (Mossad?) doesn't help in collecting facts and figures.

My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

Terrible. However, the damage to the building is very typical of that inflicted on many office blocks in the last spate of terrorist car bombings in London (the Irish in the 80s?)

The reports of Norwegian and Swedish security services states lately that extreme rights are under observation for revival activities with links to criminal scene (it can be bikers in Scandinavia or mafias) and to other European nationalists, incl. Russians.
Source is aftenposten again, sorry, this thread is so quick I havn't looked the other newssites yet this morning.

Exactly. This is the correct quote. I was just saying (or trying to) that christian fondamentalists are a scene in themselves and that is not those groups. The picture one has of christian fundamentalists can be very different depending on one's background. I just meant he is not one of these reborns or opus dei kind of fundamentalist or pentecotists (there are quite of few small such groups in liberal scandinavia, mind you).

Helt korrekt.

My thoughts also are with the victims and their families and friends.

But I many hours ago have seen the international media and its audience jumping to conclusions and throw out conspiracy theories (elQaeda) within moments. THIS behaviour is what did NOT help in collecting facts and figures.
