"Ethics rules Needed to Curb 'Frankenstein-like' experiments on animals""

I'm just curious what others are thinking.

It seems to me that this is sensationalistic reporting that will stir up the anti-evolution "we don't want no talkin' monkeys!" crowd. Apes already show a capacity to communicate among themselves and with humans. Even if they were given greater cognitive ability, they don't have the appropriate vocal organs to make speech.

Any thoughts?

Humans have enough problems trying to talk and understand each other...

I read recently that there are, or soon will be, guidelines in place prohibiting putting brain cells into apes and monkeys. So yes it is sensational reporting, as most people had never heard of, nor thought it possible, nor knew it would be useful.

There are experiments running with human brain cells, implanted in rats and mice, to study the effectiveness of treatments for human brain diseases.

Part of me says experiments on animals should be banned, period.
The other part of me says that to find the cures to horrible diseases would not have been possible without those experiments, and I wanna save my loved ones.

But the way the news put it, we are talking about mutant creation more than practical research (but then again, there IS a reason I hate newspapers, probably something to do with distorting a story to make it look more sensationalist).


The side that fights against animal torture takes the upper hand in my schizophrenic fight.



P.S.: If it's all about hearing monkeys talking, I can present the researchers to some hairy, greasy men that like to walk around dangling their nuts.
