All of these factors put together as well as a myriad of others actually make the place feel much more crowded than it actually is.
I suggest coming and joining us here in Switzerland. |

However you will find a much more interesting history of what is considdered Greater London here in this article ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_London) but it still has not seen a doubling of population since it was created. Nuff said, this is drifting off topic.

| | Re: The Tottenham Riots.... | Quote: | | | | | I'll accept a slight exaggeration.
I'm talking about inner London where the population in 1937 was around 4.5 million and I bet it's over 7 million now. Anyway, I can't get a seat on the bus, and that's all that counts | | | | | that's cos gangs were given unlimited free bus travel to go around and commit crimes all over london instead of just on their turf.

| | Re: The Tottenham Riots.... | Quote: | | | | | Perhaps, but there is no definition of "Greater London" that has stood for any great time period of London and definitly not one where there has been a doubling of population in the area. I doubt there are many people that have been alive long enough to see a doubling of the English population. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Your link is broken.

So where is the tear gas, the plastic pellets and the water cannon that Zurich police bring out for every little scuffle? Combined with rounding up pockets of rioters and shipping them away from the action, that should calm things, no? I guess not enough police or resources...

| | Re: The Tottenham Riots.... | Quote: | | | | The state owes them a job and benefits, its what we all pay tax for, living on benefits is not an amazing sugar plum holiday, the bankers, the banks, the government and the the upper classes in general fu*ked the country and still get paid millions for the priviledge. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | The UK government need to understand that they can't just disenfranchise people without there being implications. Those implications are being expressed by the current social pressure valve. | | | | | Just plucked a couple of quotes out of the thread (minus names, not picking on anyone).
If any blame is to be put on government the above two quotes sum it up. Disenfranchisement, through coddling and hand holding. The government owes you a job- that's why we pay taxes. This mentality has crippled both the government and the people under it.
Shit parenting, indeed, is at the root of it all. And to expect government to take a hand there is simple folly.
On another note, as a man born and bred in one of the former 13 Colonies, for all the flak U.S. cops get for their heavy handedness, I bet not one person in the affected areas of England would make a peep (other than the thieves and arsonists ) if a few U.S. Swat Teams were flown in there, with a proper compliment of U.S. arms. | The following 5 users would like to thank Mud for this useful post: | |

However perhaps this is an exception.

I just read that the Wetherspoons in Woolwich was set ablaze. For those of you who think this is a result of politics and spending cuts then where is the sense or logic in that?
