Re: The Tottenham Riots....

I liked that interview on the BBC radio the other night,
where 3 lads discussed all this uproar and I thought it was kind of cute when they said,
I wouldn't want my mamma recognise me on the teli or hear stuff from the neighbors
or see me doing all that smashing up of windows and all.

Not because they were afraid of their mamma but because they thought she didn't deserve something as shit as that from their sons.

Good lads you are. Very good lads.

...is that why they wore masks, then? You see, I thought it was because they didn't want to get caught...

I'd like to say it was because we (SCO) and Wales have a far greater sense of National Pride, and wouldn't go about $hitting on our own doorstep (we much prefer sending the huns down to Manchester for a riot).
...maybe the lack of English pride is because there simply isn't an "identity" anymore - compared to Scotland, Wales and N Ireland - and, for as long as I can remember, anyone in the public eye putting their head above the parapet to say they are proud to be English gets their head bitten off for fear of upset the other members of the union... I remember stories in papers of people being told to take down the English flag on various occasions (although can't find links).

Someone's been arrested for mugging the Malaysian student. What it doesn't make clear yet is whether this is someone from the first mugging (when his jaw was broken) or the second (when he was helped up and someone stole from his rucksack).

Speaking at a press conference after the operation, Mr Haziq said he had no ill-feeling about what had happened and wanted to stay in Britain to complete his studies.
He's a better person than me...

And finally, hats off to Tariq Jahan for his appeal for calm on TV. His and his family's pain must be raw at the moment, but his appeal and willingness to stand up and say what needed to be said was moving.

Re: The Tottenham Riots....

Here's a scenario after what I've just read about the Govt/Police argument about cuts to the Police; what if they (The Police) were to go on strike at the moment?

Seems like some serious falling out over this behind the scenes (because of the handling of the riots too).

Fine. But you'd feel no ill-will for someone stealing your possessions and breaking your jaw - where-ever the money is coming from?

Richard Bowes, the 68-year-old attacked and put into a coma whilst trying to put out a fire, has died.

A 22-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder, rioting and burglary.

I think what bugs me most - aside from the obvious injustice - is that the shits who did this likely won't actually care about what they did.

In interviews of rioting youths post-events they've all basically stuck two fingers up and shown no remorse. As ever, as ASBO in the UK/England is seen as a badge of honour. People doing time for this will come out with their "street reputations" enhanced...

Maybe we should do to them what the French failed to do to the British archers...

Murder'd do it. A proper, top tariff conviction for premeditated murder. 25 to life. He can keep the burglary.

Nor did it spread to the Geordie nation, because we are a balanced and sophisticated people up there.

Surprised the Mackems, the Smog Monsters and the Monkey Hangers didn't get in on the action though
There was some trouble in Washington, I read somewhere. Still, it wasn't half as bad as happened everywhere else.

Re: The Tottenham Riots....

Reminds me of those old sci-fi movies ......where the world is ruled by crazy mobs and everyone steals and kills ... and the earth is just a desert ...... was it Mel Gibson starring in them....?

Now we got the mobs, the desert is happening, law and order is going down the drain...... We just need Mel to take over running things, with Arnie Schwartzenegger in his steel outfit ...... and a couple of drones.. with mega automatic guns, lazer guns ........

What makes you think that? At least I watched some of that series ..... What was it called....?

At the time it seemed SO far fetched, but now I see some folk seem to be able to predict the future!
There was even a shortage of auto fuel!
