UK news reporting that the riots were fueled by [untrue - sic] rumours of a Mendez type head shot execution. (Shoot first, hope no questions asked later)

Facebook / Twitter adding to the fuel. "Check me out, I is on da news !"
I read a report that they can't rule out yet that the bullet in the phone wasn't from another police weapon, that sounds unlikely. I am generally supportive of the police, what do the public expect them to do, when they get constant criticism and cutbacks? Like the police chief said- damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Re: The Tottenham Riots....

Seems the BBC have recruited local reporters...innit.

"Cars were set on fire in Lewisham and a bus and shop were set ablaze in Peckham. A large furniture shop in Croydon is also well alight."

That was House of Reeves, had been trading for over 140 years:

The state owes them a job and benefits, its what we all pay tax for, living on benefits is not an amazing sugar plum holiday, the bankers, the banks, the government and the the upper classes in general fu*ked the country and still get paid millions for the priviledge.
There's the rich 'elite' ruling classes holding generations of family wealth in every country not just Britain.

'No poverty'... you have a fat head, you might as well say 'let them eat cake', you view these people as nothing, and they are rioting due to social and economic disenfranchising by a government dead set on keeping the rich rich and the poor exactly where they are.
Those rioters on the first two days have no interest in politics. They're not even your typical anarchist sterotypical types you get at May Day anti capitalist protests. did you actually see any footage? Rhetorical assumptions on your part I think.

You would obviously like to wait untill the UK becomes a failed state and has Sudan style poverty before you can call it that.
I think you meant Somalia as the usual example.

No, Sudan is fine as a bad example. But people usually just refer to the affected area there - Darfur.

Re: The Tottenham Riots....

I have a sister in Clapham Common and another in Stockbroker belt, works in Croyden. Both work with troubled teenagers, they've seen it all before- riots, bombs, Kings Cross fire. Londoners are a resilient bunch, I just hope that it doesn't affect the Olympics.

Oh Dear, it's reached the stockbroker belt what shall we do?- I know let's sing!

Alright. Strange really but may make sense. But, on Swiss TV, the London correspondent quite angrily spoke about the killing of a young black under rather strange circumstances, to put it mildly. Does this mean that this really most unfortunate incident started the whole matter ??

There is no 'cause' that is behind this - there is a serious problem in British society where antisocial behaviour has been overlooked for a great many years. This has now reached a point where a lot of people have absolutely no regard for the law or society at large.

They are now seeing that when they clump together in mobs, they can have even more 'fun' than individual acts of vandalism or antisocial behaviour.

Just wait until groups with genuine grievances get in on the act, what we are seeing now is just the early stages unless it is stopped fast.

The police will simply not have the resources to deal with widespread mass civil disturbance as the authorities have concentrated on rubbish like mythical James Bond style international terrorist organisations being under every bed or pedos being on every streetcorner whilst a bunch of people have grown up in broken families, with awful education no prospects and no action taken by the authorities. They have been allowed to more or less do as they want and now they've taken it to the next level.
Simply define what "antisocial behaviour" is ! Is it the way how Mr Cameron behaves ?

Before blaming anyone, let's maybe reach out to the main problem, I think these youth have been ignored and sided out of the British society for so long and now it's their time for payback.....blame it all on the politics again who never thought how to maintain a good living for these young instead of assisting and covering up their corrupt bankers who are losing the hard workers earned money yet still getting bonuses and having luxury lives, what goes around comes around.

I just hope it will all be controlled before the end of this week, as it's not looking good on the financial front worldwide which might ignite more riots and protests if markets starts collapsing.

Unbelievable --- incredible. Just looked it up. This is far worse than what there was in France some a while ago

In regard to the "House of Reeves" while it is obvious that their entreprise is destroyed totally, and it is easy to understand their feelings, I hope that they are well enough insurance-covered for a re-start.

They may have been ignored and sided out, but the extent to which they went, clearly was above those things in France some time ago. And in reality, Londoners will not ask for anything in favour of them but will ask for a stronger police, plus the Army to be called in ..... had they burnt down Harrods, I might have have seen some basis for defence

Riots called for in Southampton town centre and Liverpool next

There's some sort of organization behind that, this has been picked outside Dalston Argos:

Re: The Tottenham Riots....

This reminds me of the G8 riots in Geneva+Lausanne in 2003, minus the political incentive. It's now a purely criminal widescale if not wholesale pillaging of area after area. The lack of crowd control gear (and the fact that the gangs of hundreds are roaming from area to area) is making it a serious case for martial law.

Oh and Bristol, Liverpool and Birmingham are kicking in. Don't tell me this isn't organised

Re: The Tottenham Riots....

Spreading all over now, reports confirmed of trouble in Bristol now, as well as Liverpool and Manchester.

Some of video footage circulating is absolutely sickening. Mindless thuggery. If they had a genuine reason for starting this it has now been lost. Too many innocent people caught up in mindless destruction and violence.

I hope my friends and family stay safe in all of this and wish the same for anyone that has someone they know in these areas.

Yet another sad day for the UK and it's nowhere near over yet. I just hope someone grows a pair overnight and does something about it.
