Has anyone considered that the illegal firearm he had in his possession was actually a stolen police issue gun, or that it was filled with stolen police issue ammo?
No, it was a BBM Bruni 0.38, converted to live fire and with live, bulleted ammunition in the chamber

Here's a good summary of the deal regarding possession of one of these lethal little cuties, including reference to the five year mandatory prison sentence.

Mistakes have been made- false information acted on. We don't know yet!

Duggan shouldn't have been carrying a makeshift gun, even for his own protection. The police may have made a mistake.

No I didn't know that no-one is allowed a permit to carry a gun in the UK. thank goodness for that. My sister lived with a Caucasian security guy who was constantly cleaning his arsenal in the UK. I told her to get the hell out of there and come live with me.

I am used to friends here in the US who carry guns and badges.
Just where's that face palm when you need it?

PhD's carry guns on top of their lab badges? What an amazing country.

Not lab badges silly even I know that. But PhD's etc. and special licenses- yes.
the ones who work in the labs don't need to carry guns they have security, Even I can't get in without a provisional badge, security check etc.

By the way to explain about my sister coming to live with me- I should have explained, at the time she flat-sharing with a gun collector/ security guy in Ruislip and I lived 5 miles away, not in the US. Sorry 'bout that

p.s. I wouldn't click on the weejeem link possession of one of these lethal little cuties, it lit up my computer Norton. Now I have to clean up. Over and out!

No. For starters, the 9mm police ammo has no rim; .38 ammo for a revolver has a ridge to seal the cartridge in the cylinder.

Oh no more weapons- I think I taught one of the Dillons!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14470772

One of the Southall schools is named after Balir Peach,

Quote:
A campaigner and activist against the far right, Peach was knocked unconscious in April 1979 during an Anti-Nazi League demonstration in Southall against a National Front election meeting in the town hall. He died the next day in hospital from head injuries that he sustained. Fourteen witnesses said they had seen members of the Metropolitan Police Special Patrol Group (SPG) strike Peach.[2] No one was ever charged, but it was suspected that he been hit by a rubberised police radio.[3] An inquest jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure in May 1980. Peach's girlfriend, Celia Stubbs, continued to campaign for many years for a public inquiry into his death. The Metropolitan Police Service reached an out-of-court settlement in 1989 with Peach's brother.[2]

There are so many weapons on show present, we will be lucky if more people don't die.

I once knew one of the police in the SPG. I had the misfortune to go out drinking with him. Possibly the most racist, bigoted nasty piece of work I had every met ....

Little did I know-

Haroon and brothers Abdul Nasir, 31, and Shazad Ali, 30, were mowed down as they stood on the pavement protecting their mosque and businesses in the community.

I have a similar London story- friend's husband. He lost his job (skilled) had a baby and mortgage, decided to join police. He was very into community policing- really nice guy.
Was told that he was not making enough arrests and would not get promotion.
He opted for special forces training. Eventually ( pretty quickly actually) he was involved in Riot control. The money was better but the wife was close to divorce. He was away much of the time on riot duty, he had become a different person. It seems that to relieve tension when off-duty these riot police spent a lot of time getting drunk in strip joints. He told me about it, I don't know much about stripjoints but what went on was pretty disgusting behaviour. So when people talk about teachers being role models when not at work- surely that should apply to riot police too? I said he should quit, but the money was good and by that time the second baby was on the way.

It was a shame, he was such a nice guy- a great community policeman.
