Riot victim tracks down stolen laptop

I heard on the radio today of a victim of the London riots. During looting of his premises his laptop was stolen.

He had tracking software loaded onto his laptop. Through this he was able to identify that his laptop was being used by someone. He got their identity as they were on Facebook. He also managed to get a photograph of them using the laptop's webcam.

He passed the details to the Police and as a result they have made an arrest and recovered it

This is a case where technology is one step ahead of the Police.

Full story

For info. The software mentioned was Prey which is a free download.
(I am not connected with this or recommending it)

Re: Riot victim tracks down stolen laptop

sounds like BS to me, police wouldn't have given him back his laptop for a start

If the culprit had admitted handling stolen property, there should be no reason for the Police to hold on to it.
