What is it with the Austrians? First Fritzl, then Kampusch and now this?

Happens everywhere. Just seems like more media placed on them lately. We're just not hearing of it elsewhere and other countries may not be as quick to react (or react at all) to helping abused women in these types of cases.

I really hate hearing about things like this as it makes me mad and sad that one guy could hold 5 women hostage. I mean FIVE of them? It makes me wonder WTF goes on inside both sides' heads. I'm pretty sure if I my husband started doing something like that, he'd have a tragic accidental death fairly soon thereafter. Grawr.

There's a lot to be said for taking out your pent up inadequacies and frustrations on-line in a forum rather than in the real world, don't underestimate the value that this medium carries, seriously.
These stories are part of daily life for lots of victims of physical and sexual assault. Pity those who have been abused by the ones that are meant to look after and protect their own. Who can you turn to when your closest family members have no moral values and live out their sick lives? There is no worse crime than to abuse your own children, I rate it up there with murder; psychologically it cuts an even deeper wound. There are those that can move on and dispel the effects of events that happened decades ago, but why should they have to carry that burden for their whole lives?
Justice and society has no way of making good abuse. Having known people who have suffered at the hands of family members, my heart just goes out to them. It's like I'd like to say that I'm sorry on behalf of mankind in general. Sickening.

| | | | | There is a saying, "Time heals all wounds" but in my opinion whoever said that has really no idea.
Yes, there are those of us who can move on and try to dispel the effects of what happened to us, but in knowing that one's abuser is still alive, was once a respectable pillar of the community, adored by many and 'is' a member of the family - that dark cloud never lifts.
Now, if you were in the victim's shoes, how would you rate murder on this level?
