I can't believe it's 20 years. Wow that's incredible.
I also remember where I was when I got that news. In the TV room of Athlone Hall of Residence at uni. We all cried - even the guys - and hugged each other. We couldn't believe it. It was a very sad day.
But his music lives on. My 4 and 7 year olds do a brilliant rendition of "we will rock you" |

Went to see the 20 year anniversary gig last night in Montreux music hall. It was performed by Gary Mullen & the Works and it was a fantastic night. The guy is a great Freddy impersonator and really had the crowd going, although at one point he did threaten to sing sitting down until the crowd got up and started to "live a bit", but let's not go there.... Yes, I know you can't beat the real thing, but unfortunately, it's as good as we can get :-(
Cheers
Sean

Saw Queen at St James Park in 1986, one year after his amazing performance at Live Aid. Was my first concert, and nothing since came close to that feeling of being in the presence of a truly magnetic individual. I can still feel 25 years later the feeling of being in a crowd in summer rain with the hands in the air for Radio GaGa. Even Robbie his pomp was never close to being such a showman.
(incidentally, the line up that day was a yet to be know INXS and an even then tired Status Quo. INXS crashed on the way to the stadium and Status Quo played a double length set. In other words, instead of playing the same song 20 times, they played it 40 times! The relief of the end of this made Freddie seem even more godlike vs Rossi and Parfitt!)

I was working on the night shift, writing up test results, when his death was announced on the radio in the early hours.
