we should simply pay them more.
or we should pay them less/make them work for free and then those that earn money later on can choose to tip the teachers if they think they made a significant contribution to their success.

My question is not about whether ban bonuses are 'right' or not.
I am asking why bankers need incentives like bonuses for doing their job well, and others do not.
To be fair are bankers by far not the only ones getting more than a fixed salary.

1. Every person who works in a job that can be measured in financial terms is typically paid performance related. That is everyone in sales, no matter what industry. About 25% of my salary will be my bonus and I am not in finance at all.

2. Many companies want to motivate employees and pay them a bonus if the business was really good for a year.

The problem with the banking bonuses we see today is that it is a mix up off all those and many more factors that just feel intransparent and wrong.

1. The banks were not exactly doing well the last years, so I do not think anyone there deserves a present. Especially for the banks that were saved with tax money...

2. At banks do not only the traders get a bonus but pretty much everyone. That inlcudes a lot of people where it is really difficult to measure the individual performance. This results into some awkward and intransparent HR processes that IMHO simply smells of cronyism. A lot.

So I do not discuss if people working for a bank should earn as much as they do... but the way their salary is decided is indeed unique and logically questionable. To suggests that teachers or nurses should get the same is in my eyes the exact wrong conclusion: As soon as a bonus is not directly measurably performance related or a volunteer one time pay ment by the employer for a good financial result... should the banks just stop the rubbish and put it all in fixed salaries.

Because they are huge and fat?
I resent that. Just because I am 6'6" and 125kg doesnt mean that I am evil.
