I do not quite get your argument. Muslims do NOT wear turbans

Actually, many of them do - a couple of examples are the Afghans

and the Berbers

In the news, it says the killer was member of a white supremacy group. So basically, he wasn't after Muslims, he was after anyone who wasn't white.

That my friend, is what I said when I mentioned to not jump to conclusion of a Muslim hatred. The guy hated non-white equally.

in case of the Afghans (and others) yes to some extent, but
what Berbers as above wear is NOT a Turban

while THESE here below ARE Turbans

Those are Sikh turbans - and that's not a good shot of a Berber turban because the image wouldn't insert of the good one... lemme try again

Some more interesting Muslim turban variations (and just interesting turbans) can be found on wiki...

It's not hate... it's fear. An ego that quivers in fear that is fed from lack of self-esteem.

I don't know.. I'd say disdain and contempt from an inflated sense of self-importance plays a role, too... and a fear that their view of the world may be challenged.

Bingo. Spot on.

We all have this some where inside of us. It's part of our make-up and a reason why people become spiritual or visit therapists.

When fear causes us to behave irrationally, the ego is out of control. Now make guns readily available to these sick souls and you've got a tragedy.

Sadly, guns may enable lone attackers, but I have seen for myself that when the mob runs wild they do very well with sticks, stones, fists, feet and fire.

Yes, that's what I read in the New York Times this morning. Another interesting point - someone from Homeland Security or the FBI published a report suggesting that the recession and a non-white president might increase the likelihood of white supremacy activities in the US. Conservatives in Congress cried foul and apparently the report was withdrawn. Apparently some people in the US want terrorism to be focused on Islam, but of course domestic terrorism is far more complicated than that.

While I understand what you mean, I think that drawing a parallel between an online flame war and a murderous mob is a little specious, considering the context of this thread especially.

One is people being mean online, the other is people being beaten to the ground with sticks, doused in kerosene and burned alive. If I come across as being a little too serious about it, it's because I think it is serious - and drawing comparisons like that is making very light of terrible, terrible crimes.

If the racist in question is an Afghan, I think he does care about the difference between Afghans and Berbers.

Or are you assuming that all racists must be white?

(a statement that in itself is of course not one bit racist)

(to complicate things a bit more, some Afghans are white and some Berbers are white, but let's not let facts get in the way of a good racist rant)

Sorry I meant in the context of the actual shooter in this case who appears to be some kind of white supremacist. To him any brown guy with a turban might have been a good enough target.

Yes he hated all non-whites but we still do not know (nor may we ever since he is dead) if he knew, or cared, about the difference between Muslims and Sikhs. I only cited it as a possibility since it is happening so often in the US (please research it yourself). If law enforcement can prove that the organized hate groups he belonged to encouraged the act then they can be held accountable as domestic terrorism.

What I find most disturbing is that this guy was well known to authorities and yet he was legally allowed to purchase the handgun ten days prior to the event.

One day praying quietly in the temple and next moment gone. What a waste and destruction of so many lives. All family plans shattered.
