The point is that the State cannot be trusted.
^This. Whether you agree or not doesn't matter - the reality is that millions of Americans strongly feel this way and that is why:

It doesn't matter how many people die, whether they are adult or children, black or white, nothing will ever change in the US.
It's hard to wrap your mind around if you've not lived in the U.S. - particularly if you've not lived in deep "red" territory. But you've got to realize where folks are coming from if you want to have any chance to affect change. I sure don't have all the answers but I do "get" where my gun-loving friends are coming from.

Guns, Jesus and apple pie.

Oh, and I'm not sure where Capo gets the idea that fewer laws = fewer gun deaths. This article from a few years ago seems to indicate the opposite:

5 years ago, 28 people, 20 of them aged 6 and 7 died at the hands of Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I remember watching Obama on TV wipe away his tears and beg Congress to make changes to gun laws.

I realise that nothing, nothing will ever separate Americans from their guns. Certainly not the tears of a president. Indeed, some reduce their cognitive dissonance, by claiming that Sandy Hook was a government sponsored hoax.

It doesn't matter how many people die, whether they are adult or children, black or white, nothing will ever change in the US.

This guy yesterday checked into a Las Vegas hotel, overlooking a gathering of 22,000 concert goers, with 10 rifles, at least some of them fully automatic, and with enough ammunition to set a new mass shooting record, 58 dead and 515 injured.

Next week it will be forgotten. After all, there will be 472 other mass shooting incidents, 64 school shootings and 14,000 other lives ended by bullets in the US this year.
Have to ask why the reception staff didn't notice all those guns in his luggage. Or do people really check in with so many when they travel in the States these days that no one bats an eyelid?

Everything is illegal if the State says it's illegal. They used to say the same thing in the former Eastern Bloc.
So what the State said is illegal, so let's hold a vote they were warned was illegal, and setup our own State? Great logic there. The Catalonian government should be dissolved by Madrid for acts of treason. This isn't a Communist country, and the police were driven to act this hard because of the other side. Don't try and paint this as freedom fighting.

Meanwhile, I'm having serious doubts that this shooting in LV is the act of a single person, especially from that height, at night. It's going to be a few days to piece together how this all happened, and even then we may never know the truth.

And for those supposing a Trump voter, may I remind you of the political leanings of the person who shot members of Congress this summer? And the litany of supposed Islamophobic (aka a fake term) or racist acts claimed by the Left since Trump won the elections and that proved to be a hoax? The violence is nearly entirely on the Left's side right now. Don't delude yourselves on this.

CNN has a little more info on the shooter: http://edition.cnn.com/2017/10/02/us...rnd/index.html

....
please elaborate, what exactly did the 'other side' do to force the police to beat the shit out of them? The video I watched had a mass of people holding their hands up as cops weighed in with their batons, was it the holding up of hands that was so provocative? the temerity to want to vote when the government says they may not?

You're probably right, after all, if they want to change the status quo then they should just do it through the ballot box....... ah no, wait.

Did the guy check in a hotel, looking like a guerilla xmas tree with machine guns hanging all over him? Or how would the staff know...

That hotel is the top there, btw. They might not have counted on it but I can imagine they don't harass their guests who do not want to be disturbed.

Btw, forgive my ignorance, where is the deep red territory?

Assuming, since he was shooting from fairly far away, that he was using rifles. Who needs to carry 10 of them when travelling? I would hope that some hotel staff noticed them unless he had them all broken down into a lot of suitcases.

Hotels aren't airports. You can wheel in whatever you want from the underground parking lot, or the front entrance, so long as it's in a duffle bag or suitcase, no one's none the wiser. Remember the scene in Ocean Eleven? Also, weapons can be disassembled for maintenance and easier transport. There's nothing surprising about someone bringing stuff unbeknown to staff, it happens every day in every hotel in the world. I wouldn't focus too much on that bit.

Two golf bags should about do it. Not out of the ordinary in LV.

I do not think automatic guns make a difference to somebody so derranged and hooked on the idea of revenge. My thought is coming from somebody having operated machine guns before she turned 10. It is not hard to get them anywhere but people just don't do it. I think the reform in a society will have to be deeper than some legal bans. Look here, for example. Guns everywhere, people have good knowledge to use them but don't. They are humane, responsible with it and wise. It is a responsibility. Something that guy obviously interpreted in a different way. I do not think automatic guns should be legal. On the other hand, only introducing bans has never worked, either.

Authorities still investigating, but the shooter's background appears to be pretty benign.

I do not know where you are staying but I never had staff rummaging through my suitcases. I know for sure that they protect guest privacy there (unfortunately, I guess), that is what people pay for, right after silence and a decent matress. I saw his brother speaking, what a life he has ahead of him. The fact somebody blows the fuse - it is hard to understand but he must have been extremely ill in his head. The fact it will have such an impact on so many people, grieving ones and his own family, ughhh, is really hard to imagine.

Absolutely, hence my comment. These hotels are enormous, too. LV is the biggest tourist industry resort I have been in. Millions checking in and out. It is the epitome of overstimulation.

Something like Mark David Chapman's motive for shooting John Lennon, perhaps?

Now the deadliest multiple shooting in US history.

1 person, with 1 tool, killed 50 people and injured 200.

Let your mind process that for a minute.
A bloke killed more in Nice by hiring a van. LETS BAN VAN RENTALS!
