Amazing that American society accepts that a reasonable person might have 50 guns 'for personal use'.
I knew a guy in Basel who had even more in his house, I'd seen them myself.

Which is why you should restrict access to guns, because the people can't be trusted to use them responsibly.

Was Muslim religion a factor in the Norway mass murders in 2011 by Anders Behring Breivik? He managed to kill more people (68) than Stephen Paddock in LV.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_N...attacks#Attack

I think we are all becoming uninterested in these mass murders, there are so many!
It is true there are a lot of mass murders in the US so it is becoming a sort of extreme normal.
The Guardian claims 1,516 mass shootings in 1,735 days in the US where mass shooting is defined as four or more people shot in one incident, not including the shooter.

Source and chart here

^^Sorry but, LOL..!

Interesting that they lump Switzerland in with the "gun ownership" as the US. If the 45-odd percent of Swiss apparently owning a gun was under a private arrangement then, OK, the statistic fits with the graph but I suspect that the guns in Swiss ownership are more likely those army issue semi-automatics with the obligatory 20 rounds which are slung in the cellar in between army WK / shooting practise sessions.

I only know of one Swiss who has a private collection of rifles and they are decommissioned antique ones which would do more damage as a club than a firearm.

A very small number of people. In a country 300 million. Bans rarely work, whether its drugs, burkas or homosexuality as long as there is intent or desire then people will always find away around them.

Yep like all those 'normal' people in the uk (for example) who decide to go postal, buy 50 rifles from the dodgy guy down the road, bump stocks, thousands of rounds of ammo, and go on a shooting spree.

or did I dream it.

I dare say if guns where that freely and easily available in the uk then we would have the occasional postal incident, the fact that 99% of the population would have no idea where to buy an illegal firearm from, and even if they did would probably get beaten to a pulp trying to get it means we've not had a mass shooting since 2010 (shotgun and .22 rifle) and before that 1996 - that caused semi auto weapons to be banned, and guess what, no mass killings with semi auto weapons since - amazing

Half of them, sure, but hardly all of them.

There are gun stores all over the place, and it's still pretty easy to get one.

Even by mail.

I know (there's a gun shop a few streets away from us, in fact), but according to the graph in Loz's article it would seem over 45% of the Swiss population keeps a privately owned gun, i.e. not including the obligatory army issue weapon.

but the mentality remains
That raises a thought... should we consider the US as a juvenile nation, given it's newness and thus lack of maturity?!

It certainly has a president who, despite his age, is rather juvenile, petty, is driven by sexual urges and behaves inappropriately at times...

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

I'm not against guns btw, I love shooting, I've thought about getting one a few times but then consider the risks, do I really need a gun at home? nope. I understand why some people would have / want one at home for the perceived protection value, but no one needs / should be able to buy 50 guns (or whatever he had) , unlimited amounts of ammo, or modifications to make semi into full - love the bump stock manufactures press releases today, you have to be a special kind of person who works for these companies.

And yet UK has still had mass killing by van, car, knife and bomb in the meantime.

so? you have to go back to 2005 to get close to the numbers of the las vegas shooting

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._Great_Britain

and before that 1692

(plane bomb aside)

eta and none of those where 'normal' people going postal, so really, no point at all

Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the Stat and still has 350 shooting victims every single month.

In Brazil, where buying and carrying guns is illegal all over the country, over 100 are killed by firearms every single day.

again totally invalid point, chicago may have strict gun laws, but when I can just nip across the state line and buy a gun, or buy a gun off a guy on craigslist etc etc etc individual state laws become toothless.
