Not at all. Former housemate was arrested on suspicion of gun running for the IRA back in the mid 80's, on his father's fishing boat from northern Spain to Eire. Gun running relies on quantity to make it profitable. Also at that time, I was with a recently separated friend when someone offered to dispose of her ex for £500 with a crossbow. It used to be known as 'death by syth'. Personally, I don't like handling crossbows.
I can imagine. Mine were handled by officers, but there is a robust security system. It is a neat sport, great for training responsability, focus and concentration (minus the weight). It is quite popular here.

well if guns are banned then it stands to reason ammo will also be banned, and that will have a shelf life, bob's your uncle only really committed criminals will bother with the risks of getting it / making it
How are they going to ban ban carbon, sulfur, salt-peter, and lead?

Tom

I certainly know people who make their own bullets and pack their own cartridges as they find it fun!

we used to make potato cannons out of pvc pipe and fittings, fueled with aerosol hairspray, and fired with electronic ignition. Somehow I don't think kids can get away with that anymore

I think it is one click away these days. Others just need to book a hotel. There is a lot of liberty as per dangerous info accessibility, etc. So a simple ban will not do enough and everything else will do too much.

I wish somebody had banned WWII arsenal before they used some of it. People still keep finding well stored ammo they did not know about. Usually water wells. No chimnies. Any more.

That said, I thought every kid fiddles with home made explosives and slingshots.. Thugs.
We definitely did.
Our favourite teacher at school was a chemistry teacher who would occasionally discuss methods of making explosives and tell us tall stories about things he did with them when he was our age.

I'm not sure about today's kids though.
Maybe I'm just out of touch.

My kid constructed PET bottle rockets, the highlight of day care. They also rapped thug songs in radioactive-protection overalls and gloves, made slingshots out of hair elastics and other total fun things. Her day care crew were all guys, except one/two chicks. I asked to send my kid home happy and dirty as opposed to clean and bored, regretted only a few times, overall it is a mission successfully completed. The shooting and experiments she's been doing with uncles, so don't know. Probably safer these days.

Dad's physics teacher got kids excited about physics by sanctions for misbehaviour, they had to dip hands in water and current filled sink. Quel souvage.

Exactly.
Amazing that American society accepts that a reasonable person might have 50 guns 'for personal use'.
My guess is that's easily possible here as well.

He'll simply be labeled "Waffennarr" (gun fool, literally). As you see there's even a German term, a very apt one IMHO as the foolishness targets both the undertaking and the collector.

P.S. You do realize the semi-automatics fire only once each time you pull and hold the trigger, right?
You do realize that for $100 you can add a completely legal bump stock that converts a semi-automatic into a fully automatic, right?

The carefully prepared sniper in Las Vegas had twelve of them, hence the hail of bullets.

Waffennarr would more likely be translated as gun enthusiast.
(Not giving any opinion pro or contra weapons with this )
Like Autonarr, Motorradnarr ... what ever .... all enthusiasts.

I'm the last surviving male of my family name. I've inherited all the weapons from grandfather, father, brothers, uncles, and cousins. We were all hunters, sportsmen, military and policeman. I have taught both my sons to shoot and handle weapons responsibly.

I have over 50 weapons of all types. There are models and types I would still like to own. I still hunt with a 19th century rifle (30-40 Krag c.1892). There are many here that can't fathom this and would label me crazy - A "gun nut".

Many of you speak from ignorance and arrogance. Others provide valid arguements, but the thought of losing my heritage and my property does nothing but stiffen my resolve to oppose all your positions.

Did any of your ancestors own slaves? I bet they were irked by the loss of their heritage and property. And what about opium? Do you have any British forebears who may have had that taken away from them? Do you feel angst about losing that heritage and property, too?
