You do realize that for $100 you can add a completely legal bump stock that converts a semi-automatic into a fully automatic, right?
Wrong.

"which simulates the ability of a fully automatic firearm"

Key word is 'simulates', and even then, with a large loss of accuracy.

As far as crap analogies go, that’s about as good as it gets.
Says the man desperately clutching for non-comparable statistics and anecdotes to defend his support for firearm ownership, in the face of overwhelming evidence that thousands of people die every year as a result.

Which makes absolutely no difference to its ability to kill people if you are shooting into a crowd, as terrorists usually are. Any more hairs to split?

I've come up with numerous examples to support my argument that bans per se don't work. You've just gone and compared giving up slaves to giving up guns.

Im not sure you get the point of full auto fire Tom.

Firing fully automatic always results in a loss of accuracy, even when the rifle is designed to do so (ie, not modified).

The point of firing full auto is not to be accurate; its to fire so many bullets that accuracy is no longer required. Maximum damage, maximum firepower, maximum collateral damage.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

The gunman's partner has stated she had no idea what he was planning and that she always saw his as a good guy. Really makes you wonder what his motive was and what was going through his head given the level of planning that appears to have gone into the attack. Also, how many other people there are which are seemingly able to hide their deepest darkest urges from public view.

Why was slave ownership abolished?

Another ban that hasn't worked. What's your point?

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

its obvious to those with even the meanest intelligence, that 22yards was referring to the slavery ban in the US, considering he was replying to a post about owning guns in the US, and the fact that this discussion is about a shooting in the US, and that the current topic is stricter gun laws in the US.

Sorry to have blown your straw man over.

I'm the last surviving male of my family name. I've inherited all the weapons from grandfather, father, brothers, uncles, and cousins. We were all hunters, sportsmen, military and policeman. I have taught both my sons to shoot and handle weapons responsibly.

I have over 50 weapons of all types. There are models and types I would still like to own. I still hunt with a 19th century rifle (30-40 Krag c.1892). There are many here that can't fathom this and would label me crazy - A "gun nut".

Many of you speak from ignorance and arrogance. Others provide valid arguements, but the thought of losing my heritage and my property does nothing but stiffen my resolve to oppose all your positions.
I admire a lot of your posts but this sounds so pompous to me. Who are you to judge ignorance and arrogance? I prefer to consider the arguments of someone who can spell the word arguments! No one is suggesting that you must lose your "heritage." To use that as a criterion to oppose everyone else's position really just sounds silly.

Honestly, I think you are much smarter than that.

Depends on what your "ignorance" refers to. When speaking to a grownup Swiss male there's about a 50/50 chance he's actually learnt how to handle a (one type of) gun, and perhaps 20-25% chance he has roughly one year or more experience with it in a military environment (what counts as such around here).

As for arrogance, I fail to see that completely on both sides except in this quote.

That doesn't translate to an understanding of the cultural and political principles of American gun collectors, though, does it?

Youre the last surviving male of your family name, but have 2 sons? Pretty sure that means your sons are the last surviving males...

If you want to own the guns purely because they are heirlooms or because they have sentimental value, get them deactivated. A deactivated gun is still a family heirloom, still valuable, still sentimental, but stops being an instrument of death.

Also, if your heritage and family heirlooms are guns, and nothing more then guns, then your family needs better heirlooms. Might i suggest you invest in a Rolex watch (or any expensive timepiece, for that matter), and pass that on to your son one day, instead of more guns. Its far more convenient, and will probably mean more as an heirloom, since your som will have a use for it on a regular basis.

Shall I cut the legs off the coffee table I inherited off my grandmother? Maybe melt down my grandad's medals and turn them into Monopoly pieces?

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about, do you?
