I feel really sad that I can't care about this, I read about the latest mass shooting and I just shrug, 'thats the US' their guns mean more to them than their children,

go on Tom, hit the groan button, or don't now that I've given you permission to, I already know what you'll do.
I think the US either wants this to happen or accepts this to happen, as this is the only country in the world that is not in war where mass shootings happen so often.

rather sad actually.

Indeed, the anti-smokers.

Anyway, you suck at reading compehension:

"The author states that she is anti-guns, has done some unqualified and incomplete "research" (no mention of her "findings" on British gun control), yet still supports various forms of gun control."

Ladies and gents, this is the usual response to a school (or any) mass shooting, from the gun nuts.

1. Wait 24-48 hours.Do nothing and let everyone calm down.
2. Find a way to show everyone that the guy was mentally ill or that he was a terrorist. Take focus away from the gun.
3. When the inevitable debate about gun control begins, introduce doubt that gun control laws would actually help reduce mass shootings.
4. Continue to muddy the issue by casting blame on the shooter, his background, his associates, and twist the debate to blame immigration and/or the federal government, and/or mental health issues. Keep introducing new issues and fragmenting the topic.
5. Eventually, everyone will get fed up and the news cycle will move on.

Congratulations, you've handled another mass shooting.

The article posted above is Step 3.

In truth, there is never any danger of any meaningful gun laws being passed, since the politicians, on both sides, have been bought and paid for a long, long time ago.

Modern America.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

To me it is not replicable why anybody should feel having the right to carry a weapon or even use one on an other human being, unless it's his job (military, police, hunter during the season (in the forest and after animals!) ..... not getting into these things, let's just pretend we agree on these jobs).

One better not shoot a burglar here, most likely one goes to jail for it.

In a country that has the death sentence - old testimony, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth - it's no surprise that the general inhibition threshold to solve problems this way is low. Upbringing, as I said earlier.

Of the Western countries I dare to say, the US is the most backward country. In general, btw.
They got the mind of the 16th century and the tools of the 21st. Deadly combination.

I don't disagree, although I can think of one similarly stuck-in-the-past country in central Europe.

Isn't that the case for any of the anti-gun nutters?

Tom
There's nothing 'nutter' about being against gun proliferation and unchecked ownership. Nothing at all. It's all about perception. If someone enjoys shooting as a sport, then fine. If carrying a gun is part of their job role, then fine. Those people know how to care for their weapons, and practice, practice, practice.

What I will never understand is why responsible gun owners aren't the first people demanding better gun controls because the real nutters, the ones who commit these atrocities, bring them into disrepute.

I'm sorry, I can't take anything you say seriously any more.

Jeffrey Dahmer and Ian Brady also were cruel to small furry animals.

I'm actually having trouble finding a psychopath who wasn't cruel to small furry animals.

And then I think of you and your guinea pigs....and your views on guns...

I wonder about the other gun-lovers on this forum too. I see a pattern emerging.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

My suggestion would be to revoke all gun licenses and make it illegal to own a firearm, unless the owners own farms or need them for professional purposes. Start in the cities as there is no reason to own a gun (except that everybody else owns guns or are criminals). Have an amnesty where owners of registered weapons can recieve some sort of tax or monetary reconciliation. An amnesty where illegal and unregistered weapons can be handed in with anonymity. After a deadline any one caught with or handling weapons face stiff penalties. Take ammo out of circulation, online retailers, Walmart etc.

Social media, like YouTube should also ban silly videos of people shooting customized high powered weapons at inanimate objects.

But that would all make to much sense, so they'll just carry on sending thoughts and prayers and blaming mental cases.

This is why there will never be any sensible gun control.

Aka the Australian solution. And it worked.

Alternatively, or additionally, levy a 10,000% tax on ammunition. Hey, on firearms too, why not. But when you can buy ammunition online from 5 cents per round (and probably less, I just spent 60 seconds googling), there is absolutely no disincentive to stockpile rounds and spend your weekends honing your killing skills.

Australia is an isolated island, therefore making it easier to control what's coming in (or not) to the country.

US is attached to Mexico, one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

The big, beautiful Wall will take care of that problem -- leaving only those lethal Canadians to worry about.

In any case, I didn't know that all guns sold in gun shops in the US are smuggled from Mexico.

Again, did you actually read the piece before you posted that link? The author states that she is anti-guns, has done some unqualified and incomplete "research" (no mention of her "findings" on British gun control), yet still supports various forms of gun control.

So what was your point again?
That gun control won't prevent mass shootings, obvs.

Point is, if you try to ban all firearms then they will still be available on the black market - it will probably make it much harder for a legally abiding citizen to obtain a gun, but criminals probably won't find it too difficult to procure one.

It is an irrefutable truth that violence permeates US culture

Moreover, US politicians are indeed useless due to being members of a bipartisan 'oligarchy of unlimited political bribery' yet they are only representatives of the people

Waiting for change to be crafted by the corrupt legislators without demanding that change ensures reliance on prayer which has predictably not done a damn thing to change anything - Apathy has rarely been a precursor for anything other than more of the same

The killers in most mass shootings aren't criminals (before their killing spree).

Of course not, no single measure has 100% success rate, not even when it comes with the death penalty. But in all likelihood they'd be significantly reduced.
